One of the questions most frequently asked by buyers is “XYZ company – is it a scam?”
This is not a question we can answer for you easily…to find out if a particular supplier is legitimate requires being aware of what scams are out there, and also what questions you should ask of your supplier.

We can, however, give you some tips and point you in the right direction.
To start with, it helps to have a clear understanding of what these icons mean:
In short, a Gold Supplier on Alibaba.com is a company that has had their legal business licenses and contact persons verified. However, this does not automatically rule out all dishonest enterprises – it just means that the company is registered with the government, and has a valid license to operate a business.
The number associated with the Gold Supplier tells you how many years they’ve been on Alibaba.com as a Gold Supplier. Typically, the longer they’ve been around, the more likely it is they’re a legitimate and trustworthy supplier. However – this does not automatically mean you should wire everything in your account over to a 5th year Gold Supplier the minute they offer you a deal. Companies, their staff, and their manufacturing policies may change with time, so it still makes sense to be cautious when dealing with new suppliers for the first time.

There are millions of suppliers on Alibaba.com, and it costs nothing for you to reach out to them. The best piece of advice we can offer is to ask questions, and then ask more questions. Reach out to different suppliers, and after talking with a few you’ll start getting a better sense of what’s the real deal and which are frauds.

We have contacted many Chinese suppliers for product prices, around 25 in total. All of them replied
Only when we asked these suppliers for some proof of who they are did we filter out the scammers, 24 potential scammers out of 25 contacts. Not looking good.
Will require help in verifying legitimate companies.
also remember, not all unverified members are scams and not all paid gold supplier are legitimate.

I have also read that you should not buy from a company who will not let you purchase a sample. I received a quote from Glamour Steel HK, but as soon as I requested to buy a sample, they stopped answering any of my messages.
Hi,
Can you please do me a favour by sourcing car batteries and its prices for me.
I`m looking for some "scouts" that could check some companies trading on Alibababa or even buy some stuff for me. I`d like to buy two or three things for myself - network hardware.

I wanted to buy some computer ram, motherboards and CPU. A company BE POWER in Shenzhen www.be-power.com Told me that they have the products and I can buy. I informed them that I will visit Shenzhen October 28 and want to visit them. They only gave me a building name and address. When I informed them that I will visit them and pay cash for these items, they told me that they do not deal directly with customers. When I checked their address on google maps, I found out that the building is in an open space. I asked a friend in Shenzhen to check out the company and after he did, he told me that such a company does not exist and that at the address, there is a govenmental building.
Now the "owner" Blair, does not want to reply to my emails any longer. This is NOT good for China and business will suffer because of such practise. ALibaba should have a site where such scammers are beng reported by name and such scammers should be arrested, These scammers does an ENORMOUS amount of harm to the Chinese government and to the Chinese people. Eventually China will be known as a dishonest business partner and to be avoinded.
