Is it really cheaper to buy directly from the manufacturer or through an agent?

Well, it depends,

Some agents can easily discover a cheaper manufacturer to beat down his price which will be more competitive than some manufacturers prices available to you.

I think some agents are more service delivery efficient in terms of business than manufacturers.

Technically, manufacturer is preferred.

Eric.

I am very new at buying at international level, I would very much like to learn more please.

What amount or sizes are best to buy when buying Stationery products as well as coffee and tea sets which are part of the office set.

I am very grateful for Your assistance.

Many manufacturers of products do not want to get involved in International Trade, and may not have an international department.  If they do, it would be wise for a purchaser, particularly for a one-time purchase to work through a manufacturer, rather than an agent.  However, agents can be very effective in negotiating for the best price, because of the strong competition in our product area.  We constantly strive to find the best price for our customers, and have several distributors to select from, with plenty of room to negotiate.

I think things are a little bit more complicated than just yes or no.

for some basic item , factory has his own advantage. if the aritcle is very complicate, agent or trading company will show his advantage because of good relationship with different line and his wide souring  channel.

Quoting form [Admin]:

What are the hidden costs with both? Is it really less expensive to deal with a factory, or are there advantages to dealing through an agent?

I think it depends on  buyers.

As some buyers need a lot of items and it is better for them to buy from trading companies, they will save a lot of time for purchasing goods. As usual, manufacturers just produce one of items and they can not supply the buyers with a lot of items the buyers need.

Aslo there are a reason trading companies will be aware of the prices which is competives in the markets.

All of these is my opinion.

I am working for a manufacturer of diamond tools.

I should have a justice judgement.

I do import several items making no more than a container.

My experience says that in this cases it is better to deal with an agent.

Only when you get a high volume it is possible to gain better price, but as I red above it is always better to visit the factory and having face to face contact.
