At the moment i pay $230 for shipping 16kg worth of goods from China to the UK, which is very costly. Does anyone know of any cheaper ways to ship goods from China.

Im not concerned about the time takes. Are there any services or companys that sell slots in containers. I would be interested to know im looking to import roughly 100kg of compact goods?

I don't know much about the metric system, but I am looking to ship about 100lbs from China to USA.  I read where that would cost me about $2,000.  Is that amount reasonable?

I know what you are worried about, but as carrier they are also  very worried something,  for example the payment. the process is that book the space, and send cargo to custom warehouse, custom clearance, and depart. pls note: If the cargo is in custom warehouse, the shipper want to get back the cargo, he must import the cargo, which need custom clearance. now the cargo is handled by custom. the carrier must take care that the cosignee have the ability to refuse to receive the cargo. so generally, the carrier colloct payment. I am in China, I am a newbie in here, very glad to meet you. I am in air freight company in guangzhou China.

I am importing from china to USA and looking to save on shipping costs can you help?

Frankly to say, for 16kg cargo, send by courier is the best way. Maybe the freight by sea or by air will cheaper than courier fee, but you have to know, courier service is door to door, but by sea is port to port, by air is airport to airport, you have to do many local work both in loading and discharging port, there also will need yr money, and of course, will waste yr time. So pls use courier way for this small cargo, if you add the local charge occured in loading and discharging port, you will find I am correct!

I must again say that I am a bit surprised to see how you all handle shipping.

First of all, it is easy to send larger shipments (too large to send by air) by container ship. You do not need to buy a whole container, you just buy whatever space you need.

Secondly, why bother handling the shipping yourself? Get a CIF price, and whatever company you're dealing with should be able to quote you a very reasonable shipping cost quote, and then arrange to have your stuff sent in a container with other goods (theirs or other's).

Generally, this is what we do, and the difference in cost between us arranging the shipping ourselves, and the factory doing it for us, is so incredibly small that it is hardly worth mentioning.

Hello Casper

I am from South Africa and looking at importing some envelopes (50 000 of them!) from China.  I am totally new to the process.  I read your advice above, which sounds like good business practice to me.  My question: How do I get the CIF price?  Can the company I am dealing with organise everything?  What should I look at or keep in mind?  Is that all?  What other costs do you have?  How do you go about finding out about import duties?

Thanks,

It will be great if you can help.  Where are you from?

Are you still looking for options or have you finalized your shipping methods?
