Hello,
Well it is a good idea for you to first send a free sample unit but let them pay the frieght fee. This will show the buyer that you are serious in finding long-term buyer's.
You should also allow your buyers to open an Letter of Credit with you, this will increase their trust with you.
Provided references from the buyer's that are also from their country is a great plus. Provoke them to visit your company in person. Tell them that they may come in person and pick-up their order and pay once they inspect the order. Give legitmate reason's on why you cannot accept the payment method's that they want.
Best to be is honest, and prompt replies.
Kindest Regards,
Martin

Hello Xeron,
Sending a free sample may not be viable. For instance, we manufacture diamond jewelry. Therefore, it is not possible for us to offer free samples even if the buyer is willing to pay the freight.

Until the trust is established between the parties, these kind of hesitations and conflicts may happen to occure normally. To erase the worries from your potential buyer, you can try to provide him/her to talk with your one or two customers,if any surely, who are from the country of your potential buyer. If this way is not applicable, ask them what they offer as the payment method and check their offer if it is acceptable for you.For the agreements, on some cases you also may need to be more flexible.
Good luck..

Well yes I understand rchas, my comment with the samples may be useful to some companies and some not depending on what your company manufactures. What you can inquiry from them, is that they send you the payment for the sample once you provide them with the B/L.
Kind Regards

Xeron,
What happens if they don't send the payment for the samples even after you show them the B/L or, in our case, AWB (Air Way Bill)? You'd have to scramble to stop the shipment!
That happened to us once. The buyer said that they would T/T the payment after we scan the AWB and email them its image. They did not remit the payment and we just about managed to stop the shipment. We were lucky that time.

Hmm..yes you are correct in that view.
Well you can state to them that once you provide them with your shipping courier's invoice and documents that proves that the item with sent including with the tracking number, then after they review it, they can send in the payment.
But again this leaves the gap of them not sending in the payment, but the chances of canceling the shipping is better.

Hello we are in export business since 2001 and the one thing which plays a vital role in the development of our company is AliBaba which is based on WWW. As a first step I have developed a website of our company which is in a good presentable form. Through this you can give a satisfaction about your company to the buyer after that send the sample and try to send the sample free of cost. Then the buyer will agreed upon T/T based agreement.
Thanks

Replying to [Xeron]: Can you explain a bit more of the process in this situation?
Get the tracking # and invoice from shipping company, then have buyer T/T seller? or have it shipped, then ask buyer for T/T immediately.
