LCL charges & Ocean freight charges are same????? 13 replies,2482 views

I want to know whether the Lcl charges and Ocean freight is same????because I recently did an lcl shipment from china to Cochin and the shipping company in china quoted me 45 USD / cbm as LCL charges from ningbo to Cochin..total = 8 cbm...now at the destination in Cochin, the clearing agent here has charged me around 125USD /cbm as Ocean freight apart from the 45USD / cbm as LCL charges...so in all I have to pay 170 USD / cbm for an LCL shipment of 8 cbm...is this charges correct...the import duty and other local charges in china and Cochin are not included in this...I think the clearing agent is trying to fool me by charging lcl and ocean freight charges which according to me is same....please advise .....

Do you have a contact number ?I need to contact you ASAP. I am being cheated in the same manner but for Rs 14556/- and CBM 0.03 /50Kgs

Hi, I don't know how many kinds of local charges shipper/consignee need to pay in China and India. FCL and LCL is 2 types of ocean transport method. FCL = Full Container Loading. LCL - Less than Container Loading. So if the invoice that your agent sent to you showed LCL fee but Ocean Freight, and the Bill of Lading indicated that FREIGHT PREPAID. It mean LCL = Ocean Freight.

Hi Vipin

In LCL (less than container loading) shipmens, your total freight cost includes ocean freight at loading port, but also charge at destination by dest agent.

As you mention, $45/CBM is charge at loading port, you can consider this as ocean freight, while $125/CBM is dest charge, this should includes warehouse charge, BAF, handling, distribution, customs clearance etc. I suggest you post break list of dest charge and I can analysis it's reasonable or not.

lcl charge is ocean freight.   you don't have to pay for the clearing agent.

I think you have not been cheated but in any case you can ask for more information if required by using your RTI right if you are an indian.

It's normal if this is your first experience, you can compare it with the next time or get information from experienced people. Maybe the clearing agent is right.

Hello All I also charged 0.03 CBM/20 kg parcel for Rs.13775/- Rs. local charges + CUSTOM DUTY 2200/- RS. + cha agency commission of 2000/- rs . at destination mumbai nhava sheva port for the goods of 10000/- thousand Rs. I paid CIF 166 USD (APPROX 9000 INR.) charge of goods to seller manufacturer in advance. I have cheated in local charge at destination port without inform me. Before your order,you should ask for Co-loader charge;Because for LCL shippment,LCL CO-Loader charge sometimes very high,but LCLO/F is low.

Only confirmed Co-loader charge with LCL O/F,then ask your forwarder to go ahead.Otherwise,it maybe cause you into trouble.

Hi,

I think 125 USD is clearing charge in your customs. And 45 USD was the Ocean shipping charge. You should check it with your clearing agent to understand better
