Ways to Identify Scammers
Post 52 of 73
Replying to [tworiverstradingco]: the best way to identify a scammer is that if they are a gold partner or have trust pass then you know they are scammers. You will get no service or no product or not what you ordered or all of the above.

The best way to identify scammers is, when you know what you can buy where and what are market prices !

So a try to buy Brand Items from China/Indonesia or free agents all over the world, at wholesale prices or less, is a mistake !

Brand Items are secure and cheap only from official suppliers in your own Country !

Replying to [tworiverstradingco]: Looks like Putian City is the heaven of scammers and criminals. Everything they sell is

either bogus or fake, but worse, most in Putian city ask for advance payment and then as

soon as they receive the money then suddenly their phone numbers change, their titles and

positions change even the website they were doing business with change. Yet, some of these

so called traders are listed with Alibaba as not just gold member but as Trustpass member.

I am not sure where the reputation of Alibaba goes into picture from this. I have recently

been scammed by and taken my money and no goods were shipped. I like everyone to know and

be careful when they do business with this particular group. The tarders name is:

Huayi Trading Firm
website on alibaba = http://sportshoescn.en.alibaba.com/

The individual scammers involved in this trading firm are

Mr. Chunhua Ou
Mr. Jianxing Zhu
Mr. Derong Chen
Mr. Hexing Huayi
Mr. Hongguang Huo

and others. This trading firm (and the same people) also do business with other names such

as:

www.Shoeskycn.com
www.Sportshoecn.com
www.Moboem.com

and so on.

Please look for these individials' names and those websites and firms when doing business

with them. This is simply a group of thugs and criminals that will take your money and may

not ship any goods or inferior or fake goods to you as they did to me.

I have written to Alibaba a few times. I am yet to hear from them.

To add my penny worth...

Yes, there are scammers out there and you need to be aware of that. Again; if the price is 'too good to be true', it's probably too good to be true.

Some stuff you should be worried about:

* Know the regular price. Ofcourse, you want a good deal and a great price but don't think you can ever buy a Harley Davidson for $2500 and only $99 shipping.
* Never buy fakes/imitations. If you buy anything that is copyright protected ('branded'), you will most probably get a fake or imitation product of poor quality. But you could still decide you want it. Then, make sure that that kind of rip-offs can come through customs. Where I come from, all of these fakes will be identified. The recipient will be fined a severe penalty or even have to appear at the court of law. Best case; the only confiscate the goods.
* Be ware; 95% of the suppliers in regions like Shenzhen DO NOT HAVE STOCK. They will tell you they have, but they don't. The will start looking for the goods after they have recieved your payment. I'm not sure if this is bad, but it's true most of the time.
* Gold Suppliers and Trust Pass members can be scammers as well. Do not value those signs too much. Alibaba does NOTHING to ban known scammers from thier site. as long as you pay the fee you're welcome. It's more like the yellow pages then a trustworthy source of suppliers.

Some stuff you could be worried about, but PERHAPS don't need to:

* ALL suppliers need payment in advance. That's something I don't think you can change. Don't be challanged by this.
* MOST suppliers ONLY accept payment by Western Union or TT. This is the most secure way for the RECIPIENT to recieve money. Unfortunatly, for you, the most 'insecure'. Furthermore, other payment methods have higher costs for the recipient.
* Yes, all Chinese people use English nicks like 'Andrew' or 'Julia'. But trust me, that's more convienent.
* Yes, most suppliers will use yahoo or other 'strange' types of email addresses for thier MSN. Why? I'm not sure... :-)
* The WHOIS information for the domain of the company you are dealing with might look crappy. I've seen this many, many times. Could be the registrar that just doesn't bother to enter correct details.
* Funny things happen. Faxes get turned off at night to cut down powerconsumption. Websites go on and offline all the time. If the website you bought something from is offline all of the sudden, do a traceroute and see if it's a provider problem. It probably is.

Now I'm kinda tired. Hope this helps! Read the forums!!! Search is your FRIEND!

Independent Inspector in China

If you ever want to do business again in China I can help.

Please read all the way to the bottom.

I have friends in China who can help you inspect the company, your product before you send any money over there through Western Union or Money Gram.

For now, I can only have my friends help you visit companies located in GuangZhou, HongKong and Shenzhen.

-----------------------

What we can do:

-----------------------

1) Take pictures and videos of the factory facility.  Acquire samples for you.

2) Provide you an independent report as best as we can on whether those people are genuine or not.

3) Ship out the sample to you for your inspection before spend large amount of money to some unknown company.

4) Saves you the trip to fly to China.

-----------------------------

What we can NOT do:

-----------------------------

1) We are not cops, we can NOT go after someone for you.

2) We are not Chemical, computer, industry experts.  Do NOT ask us to check the Chemical balance of your product, do not ask us to inspect semiconductor for you.  You get the idea.

3) We have real jobs here in America and in China, it will usually take us 1-2 weeks of time usually to check out the company in Guangzhou, ShenZhen and HongKong for you.

---------------------------------

What can you do to help:

---------------------------------

1) Ask for factory/office visit.  (Good indication whether the company is scam or not).  We will go visit for you.

2) Ask for Sample (DO NOT BUY BULK THE FIRST TIME).  We will take the sample and send it to you.

3) Ask for address in CHINESE, people in China are bad with English.

4) Write up a list of things you want us to check, we will tell you what we CAN and what we CAN NOT check for you.

5) Be patient.  It's better to be late than to lose money.

----------------

Advantages

----------------

1) I live in USA, I will provide you my address, and phone number so you can actually talk to someone who speaks English.

2) I will never ask you to send me money via: Western Union or Money Gram.

3) I am an US citizen, I am bound by US laws.  I can be prosecuted for fraud.

4) My friends and I will do our best to help you determine whether the company is trust worthy or not.

--------------------

Disadvantages

--------------------

1) Even if the sample is good, we can not guarantee future product quality.

2) We can not carry something larger than the size of a playstation 3 for you.

3) Be realistic on what we can check for you and what we can NOT check for you.

*************

Final note:

*************

I am pretty sure I am missing something, I am sorry I am not a scammer or some professional lawyer.  I am just a start up businessman like many of you who's trying to get some cheap stuff from China.  And I was stupid enough to get cheated on a couple of times.  If interested...

Okay all here goes...

First off...This is NOT A TRADE LEAD -- I am in teaching mode here. I have come across so many people who simply have no idea how to research a company, so I'm going to go through a scenario using my own company as an example of how to research a company. It is not a promotion for my company, just an honest effort to teach people how to research BEFORE they get scammed.

Okay, so you get approached by someone on Trade Manager or you contact a company you find in sell leads or someone has contacted you from your buy lead. Here are some examples of ways to easily identify whether they are frauds/scammers or not. This is NOT foolproof. Do your due diligence and you will be less likely to get scammed. Follow along at each step (if you care to).

Before contact or at the time when contact has been made:

Identify the company name.

Let's say that I contacted you. You need to do a search on Alibaba to find my company profile.

Go to the home page of Alibaba.com

Type the name of the company in the search box ? Please take note, sometimes less is more in regards to what the results output will be ? You may want to only put Two Rivers as your search term, you will likely come up with more results.

Choose Companies from the drop down box.

Click search.

Here are the results of that search (for Two Rivers Trading):
