export metal scrap to india
Post 1 of 4
Dear all,

I'm an italian trader involved in metal scrap field , even if i'm basically buying and selling scrap for local market  i'm planning to start an export activity to india
  • I'd like to know which is for your experience the best way to ensure to be paied by the buyers ? i mean is it enough a standard LC ?
  • Is there a way to be paied during  container''s loading  in an italian port (FOB) ?
  • How can i find and verify the reliability of a buyers ? someone has just suggested me that asking the  IEC code should be enough
  • I think that working directly whit founderies ( as i do in italy) should be better , is it the same thing in india  ?
As you can undersand as supplier i'd appreciate  to receive the most important suggestions to increase as possible the safety during the export process

Thanks a lot
Marco

Get a LC, that's the most fool proof way of getting paid. Verify the LC through your bank. You can get the money once you load the goods in the container. Foundries will generally not import, thgy will buy through local importer/traders. Best is to find a trader that gives a fair price. If you wish, you may sell to me. Hope this is helpful.

LC will be the best way. A Irrevocable 100% LC at sight. Also it depends on whether u re giving on a CNF basis or a ex yards or FOB basis. If u have a good understanding with yr buyer's the its ok to get an advance and balance on BL copy or on weight slip. However, Indian market is not so good now and i strong advise that a CAD or a by submitting documents thru the bank terms are not the best option. Most cash buyers, like us, will prefer to see the goods and load it in front of us. Then doing it on cash terms is not a problem. Most of my deals our of Malaysia is on cash terms and my buyers gives me on cash TT advance. For vietnam and Chian its best to get a confirmed LC. it the most safest way. This applies for bangladesh as well.

I'm agree with both
It is true LC "should " be the safer way.. anyway for example if my broker ship the scrap one day after the terms in the contract the LC is not valid anymore, i'm just doing an example to say that even if LC is good, the best way is to be paied during the loading in the seller's country port , but doing this it is necessary to esatblish a good relationship with buyer what do you think?
I'm also agree that usually you have to work with importers but it is also true that usually when there are good quantity you can negotiate directly with foundry owner an ijtuitive advantage in this case is also the price cause you don't have to pay commissions to the mediator
How ever to find a good , serious and reliable people who can collabarate with you for the market where he lives is the best way , but it is not easy .....
About the indian market that is suffering at the moment it is true for HMS not for copper or brass
