yes I think so ,but some times we think it is a losing money job to take in small quantity ,I just met this trouble now ,see :

I was very happy to receive an email from a Germany customer, who wanted to make a trial order for our ceiling spot lamps, but the quantity was too small,20 models,6 pieces each model,as ceiling spot lamps are small things,we usuall set the MOQ at 300 pcs,now 6 pcs ,it is hard to outsource crystal and iron parts, some have to make new molds, for such a small order,it is unfavorable for production.
I talked with our boss, then replied,we sincerely want to do business with ,but the quantity should be 150 pcs each item…
But then this morning ,I see now reply from this customer, how to do?[em24][em24][em24]

As you know lots of company have their MOQ,because if the quantity below the MOQ,then the cost of producing will be high(start production line cost ,machine cost, mould cost, etc all average to each products, then the price will be high ),small quantity leads to more cost, the price will be high for some irregular products

My company imports small orders, specially consumer electronics.

I believe small orders are important for both parties, supplier and buyer, as this process helps build a strong relationship between them.

In a period of 2 months our small orders have totalled almost 2000 pieces.

I fully understand your problem, which has to do with the difference in approach to manufacturing between Eastern and Western expectations.(Western, hold stock to fill orders. Eastern, manufacture only when order paid for)

I worked as a Business Management consultant for many years and often this type of problem appeared.   [em17]

The best advice I can give you is, next time you have an order which meets your  "Minimum order quantity "requirements, you need to increase your production by about 5%.

Then keep these items in stock to fill trial orders. (keep replacing your small stock holding as you need by adding on to larger orders, but keep you trial stock holdings small)

You can charge a preimium price for the trial order as the customer fully expects to pay more for a smaller quantity, even though your cost to produce was kept small by including in a larger order.

These smaller trial orders can lead to an ongoing and profitable relationship, but you have to overcome the first hurdle of actually showing your prospective client what you can achieve.

Hope this helps for future .

An order is an order.
Better to have order then not to have an order
Thats business.

We are a paper printing company in china, for instance, the MOQ is 5,000pcs for paper bag,if you buy smaller - 1000 pcs , $0.39/pc, but it only cost $0.27/pc, which offer do you prefer ? in other words, smaller quantity should be more expensive than MOQ.
