In most exporters' mind, Indian buyers always want cheapest price. To do business with Indians, you must have lowest price, or you will fail.In my experience, I had same idea before. However, when our indian office started, I changed my mind.
For example, I exported one product to India, I added USD80/MT on the price of factory. that's my profit. Before that, factory always told me, it's impossible to export this product to Inida. just because they tried many times, and their price always seemed a bit higher than expected, till they offered the price which can't be lower, they gave up.
When I got the order and told them the truth, they're shocked.
What's the reason? am I lucky? NO!
To explore this question, we need to know the business style of India. If you've ever been to India exhibition, you would find you're always short of business card. You wil see what's Incredible India, Once I was there, 3 boxes of cards were taken empty in the morning. Do you think that's full of business chances? unfortunately not! I didn't get many business chances there. many people take your cards without a word! My cards seems more popular than me, I don't think I'm ugly...
Just Joking... Let's go on... The incredible things happen just because most people there are indenters, that's the emphasis. Are you always get inquiry like " Please offer your best price of CNF Nhava Sheva C3 LC90days .. bala bala..." I don't know if you've ever succeed your business like that, to be frankly, me never! just because those info. are sent by indenters.
Those people called INDENTERS don't do business with you directly, maybe that's a person only. it called indenter. Almost 90% people you see on B2B website from India are indenters. they just care about price, and if you offered your lowest price, they would add profit on it. HUGE PROFIT! that profit would make your business dead. and they never care!
That's why I can add USD80/MT on the price of factory. I added less than those indenters, and I contacted the real importers.
So, in my opinion, first thing your need to do before doing business with Indian, you should judge who is importer and who is indenter!
