How are the prospect of Prefabricated house and container house?
Post 1 of 13

We undertake the project of steel structure construction.

I would like to know the global outlook here.

Any advise or opinion are welcome ?

A start-up American company converts discarded containers into houses. Have you looked into this option? It should lower the cost enormously.

Also truck trailers could be used for that, and they are even longer. They also have a better insulation, while unfortunately they tend to be weaker in their structure and quite often are already damaged.

Might be an interesting thread to discuss. Most people I know (if not all of them) prefer to live in houses rather than under a bridge. [em1]

Container House is designed and developed according to the standard size of shipping container.
It is of heatproof and waterproof.
Our customers use it as office, meeting room, dormitory, shop, booth, toilet, storage, kitchen, shower room and so on
It is really save a lot of many and also has good ability to assemble and disassemble for several times without damage.

It is also common practice in India to convert old containers as site offices near construction sites, cottages in remote areas and security resting place. I am yet to see somebody using it a regular house.

Using discarded containers as permanent shelter seems to be a novel concept, but the company I mentioned in my previous post does that. They started in New Mexico and were planning to relocate to El Paso, TX to take advantage of Mexican labor right across the border. So they are going for it.

For me the biggest challenge would be thermal insulation. Parts of India, China and also Mexico experience enormous temperature swings, and they have to be taken care of. Any good ideas on how to solve that? Also the best usage of the space might be a major hurdle.

You are right. I have seen only a roof insulation. More practical inputs would be interesting in this regard.

In Indonesia,
1. Roofing: using Aluminum and Zincalum:
2. and thermal insulation: all walls are insulated with hollow with air between
the second wall styrofoam plus another interior board.
3. Space lay out: implementing module system (expanded)

I have the impression the insulation oneuni mentions is about as good as it can reasonably get. There are better options, but they are very expensive and therefore not a good idea for container houses.

So I for one am wondering if it might be a better idea to forget about this kind of houses all together (unless they have to be relocatable) and find a totally different concept. For example, I have a system in mind where you would use some kind of highly insulative bricks or blocks that also show relatively good structural performance, covered by a novel cement...

Looks like this innovative building method has been innovated all over the world :) This Finnish manufacturer makes the containers following the relocation business model. They supply fully furnished and equipped field containers for medical, military and crisis management purposes. Billing can be done monthly (renting) or buyer can buy the container.

Germex, I think you are onto something with insulative bricks/blocks. Some kind of service company that would provide field-kit for making insulated blocks and related house plans etc. In this case major cost of the operation would take place at building location and would be fitting to the overall market conditions.

Dennis Li,
Do you following the discussion or not ?
what is your comment on it ?
Have you got any design/pictures of your mog up yet ?
if you do, post it here to see the product ?
let it be visualized here ? I think it would be great to see !
regards,
