I agree with EGC Reliant on "traditional" and "modern" quality. It's 47 years ago that I became a soldier and therefore had to buy a few items I couldn't takle with me from home. Among them were some foot nail clippers that look like scissors or pliers. Except for their plastic pouch, they are still in mint conditions...

I think we have to have a better look at quality and "economy" once again. A lower price doesn't mean better economy, but producers want to sell of course. So they make things cheaper - with the resulting poor quality - to offer these items for pennies.

In our position as consumers we have to make our voices heard, letting them know that we want quality. And then of course we'll have to reward those who honor our demand. That should take care of the quality problem.
