New to Shipping From China (Ningbo) To California Cheapest "Way Gross Weight 54kg"
Post 1 of 8

Hi My Business Partner and I have started a Candle Company here in California and recently decided to move forth with having our Boxes Made in (Ningob). We are having a Sample of our box being sent
EMS
which is fine and great cost wise because it is only 1 of the 2000 pcs we are looking to have shipped therefore not expensive.

Our question is: We are hoping to Airfreight the remaining 2000/pcs however UPS which was one a few companies we called was charging an arm, a leg!!!

Any ideas, Here is what our Shipment would contain.

4 Cartons at 42.5x42.5x22cm Total Gross Weight 54kg (Each Carton is 13.5kg)

2000pcs Total Each Carton Contains 500pcs

Please Help (:

Hi - if you would like to use air freight, i think you should have your supplier get a quote from DHL or TNT for you. I'm also in california and import printed paper throughout the year and found that it's the cheapest for small quantity air freight if you ask your supplier to handle it for you.

just have them use their DHL/TNT account and get you a quote, you can just wire the money to your supplier...

17 x 17 x 9? Those a re small boxes. I guess they are single candle boxes.

Ok you have to pay not only the shipping cost but DUTY anmd CUSTOMS CLEARANCE fees. THAT is where the expense is coming fom using UPS or FedEx etc.

You can't really get around those fees..... Which is why it may actually be cheaper to fins a decent source in the US.

btw... your text color on the website does NOT work!..... grey on black? Too hard to read people!

You should checkout some other shipping companies or freightforwarders from china.

Well first of all you should get some information of freight forwarders which are operating in China, that wouldn t be a problem since most of them have offices there, like for example SDV or Shenker which are worlwide.

These companies would ask for this info: volume, quantity of boxes, where is the merchandise, weight, etc. in order to calculate the freight.

Second, you have to decide which incoterm to use, generaly the one who sell the merchandise says which one (if you didn t arrange it before buying). In China most of this kind of fabric use FOB or EXW. Find out which one.

Then, if i were you i would arrange with my freight forwader to handle all duties and the custom clearance, and then charge it tou you with the air freight. This way you will not get involved in this kind of operation that they have vast experience with.

For the next time you sholud get informed before of making the decition of buying in a foreign country, especially this far, becouse the cost expenses of bringing the merchandise to the USA are important. Sometimes buying in China is cheaper but when you sum all these costs it is almost the same of buying in USA.

Regards;

Alejandro.

Well, I have my own way to ship with couiers. there are two ways I use:

1.when I ship small parcels, let's say 0.5kg to 5kgs, I send these through my own couier account such like, UPS, DHL, etc. but Fedex too expensive in China.

2.When I ship parcels above 5kgs, I will use forwarder of UPS, DHL, people call it agent, they specialized in big volume goods, and have very good price. Your parcel 54kgs is the best to choose this shipping way.

You best bet would be to find a reputable freight forwarder and broker and have your product shipped from China via commercial air freight. The total transit time (ie, air freight, customs clearance and ground shipment) from China to Southern California should be around seven (7) to ten (10) days. If you go with an independent freight forwarder you should find they are much less expensive than the big courier companies (ex, FedEx, DHL, UPS, TNT, etc...).

Sea freight is another option. However, you'll probably find that the total cost (ie, freight, administration fees, terminal fees, brokerage fees, ground shipping fees) for a small shipment of 54kg is almost the same whether it is shipped sea freight or air freight. For heavier shipments (and if transit time is less of a concern for you) you should definitely consider sea freight. For shipments weighing more than 100kg you'll find sea freight considerably less expensive than air freight. As the weight increases beyond this sea freight will cut your per piece shipping cost substantially.

Your question dates from early June so I'm assuming you got this sorted out. If not and you are looking for a good freight forwarder / broker I recommend a company called MTA Lines (Berea, Ohio) ... they're extremely good to work with and would have no problem getting your product from China to California.
