Alibaba should do something about scammers now! 34 replies,5104 views

I was looking for mobile phones on alibaba, spent almost 2 days on it. The result? None of the suppliers would let me visit their premises, all demanded payment via Western Union, none would give me their DHL **** or in fact any other detail by which I could verify them. If this was an occasional problem I could live with it, what terrifies me is the scale of the phenomenon. If this goes on this site is going to be totally useless to bona fide traders and will become a complete waste of time...

Fully agree with you!

I had bad experience with a supplier :

PT Mutiara Rimba, Indonesia.

After agreeing on the price and qty, the stupid people at that company stopped taking phone calls and replying emails.......

I believe they are not serious sellers and may even be scammers.............

After contacting Alibaba, the sad reply is that Alibaba  cannot do anything about this company.

Sigh.....

I ALSO ARGEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN CHEATED TWICE IN THIS WEB!!!!!

May be this site is a site to help scammer, not seller or buyer.

Maybe they should give "Gold Scammer" for them or "Scam Pass"

Alot of ppl have been scam by this web, i think i will tell my friends to stop using this web.

OR MAYBE ALIBABA IS THE SCAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Alibaba should do something about scammers now!

I have had several incidents where I was almost scammed and two  occasions where I was actually scammed. I have contacted "Alibaba", and the reply has been quite----nothing. I have lost a total of $4,000.00 (USD)

All I'm trying to do is make a living to support my family; and, i don't need the headaches of someone trying to take food off my table. What is our course of action? I understand that there are legitimate companies out there; somehow, the dregs keep surfacing and making it bad for everyone.

I have noticed where other websites---have a list whereas they stop postings from certain geographical regions and companies. why can't "Alibaba" do the same? I agree with you Naix, "Maybe they should give "Gold Scammer" for them or "Scam Pass or 'MAYBE ALIBABA IS THE SCAMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!'"

Re: Alibaba should do something about scammers now!

Hi I think it is not only ALIBABA's problem,

In the early spring I had also a very good experience with another web site such as ALIBABA, I don't describe here now but also very well know trade center.

I discussed about mobile phones from a supplier from Spain, recently it cost me only 250USD which I don't care about it but the bad thing is that they have freedoom of movement in these pages. At the first sight everyhting is strarting very fair and clear. With sample purchase everything became upside down. Yeah, to be honest it was my fault to fall in this trap. But today I know very well how to tread this companies. The company was totaly fake and more than 6 companies were belonging to the same guy with different names but easy to understand. All of their advertisment erased later and information given to the Spanish police department etc. Anyway the money will never turn back. But not to live the same problems once again now I can suggest you the followings,

If you can not verify the company from interent don't pay attention on them that much. Usually all serious companies have their own web pages to visit.

Try to understand it from their web, check their IP's, telephone and fax check can be helpfull. Usually you will find a different IP which is not belonging to even their country.

Most scammers are using mobile phones. Fisrt of all never accept with mobile numbers. This is the most important step. NEVER TRUST TO ONLY MOBILE HOLDERS.

You can verify international telephone codes from every where butmobile prefixes are a bit more difficult. Check from http://www.lingosupport.com/mobile_rates.html

Never accept with WesternUnion or similar **** ways.

If you will recieve a sample P/I, check seller VAT number if it is not described immediatley ask about it. Please note that you can only deal with registered companies. So if you will have their VAT number try to find out from their Chamber of Commerce. Also, for example here in Turkey every company has a special register code from the Chamber of Commerce you can ask this as well. I give it to whom is asking to me to verify our company.

I would like to also know about your different ideas as well. Keep sharing usefull infos.

!! Warning to all !!

*Nokia 8800 Mobile phones*

Do not deal with ROMTELEX in Romania !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The phone number worked, the email worked no problem. The man was very knowledgable about the products and shipping information so I trusted him and paid my money via T/T.

The phone calls stopped, the emails stopped and no products have arrived.

I am a serious buyer and feel very angry that this has happened. Can anyone advise me if there is anything I can do about this or advise me of a serious, trustworthy Nokia seller who will do good business with me.

Re: Alibaba should do something about scammers now!

SAME PROBLEM HERE. ORDERED XBOX 360 FORM SELLER OUT OF UNITED KINGDOM. WAS TOLD PACKAGE WOULD BE SHIPPED VIA QUICK SHIPPERS.COM. RECIEVED TRACKING NUMBER, BUT COULD NOT LOG ON TO WEB SITE TO TRACK PACKAGE. RECIEVE ERROR MESSAGE " SERVER NOT FOUND". TWO DAYS LATER RECIEVED EMAIL SAYING THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THERE SERVER AND PACKAGE COULD BE TRACKED USING WEB SITE POWER-SHIPPERS.COM.  THIS WEB SIGHT IS VERY GOOD, TRACKING NUMBER SHOWED IN TRANSIT . WAS TOLD TO WESTERN UNION MONEY TO AGENT OF THE COMPANY. ASKED IF I COULD DO A BANK TRANSFER, BUT WAS TOLD THAT WESTERN UNION WOULD BE FASTER. TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD ONLY DO BANK TRANSFER . AFTER THAT I NEVER HEARD FROM THEM AGAIN, THEY NEVER ANSWERED  ANY MORE OFMY EMAILS . IF YOU SEE THIS SELLER  " ANDREWS RODGERS CO. LTD", IT'S A FRAUD AND THE ESCROW COMPANY HE'S USING IS ALSO A FRAUD. I AM GLAD THEY DID NOT GET MY MONEY, BUT YOU ALL SHOULD BE AWARE. EMAILED ALIBABA, NEVER HEARD BACK.
