After visiting China I do not dare to do a T/T in advance, do you?

Hi,David Frencken,
I'm sorry to see that, I am sure that what had happened to you is a minority phenomenon. Majority Chinese peoples are honest and kind-hearted. I think when you do some business with Chinese suppliers, first you must judge whether the supplier is reliable, then deceide to do business with him. If you think he is reliable from you opinion, accepting the T/T in advance if it is necessary.

Replying to [David Frencken]: Tell your supplier Do L/c at sight with your inspection clause..
IF you are giving T/t in advance you are putting your neck in your arms.. I don't want to say but first time you and supplier both are safe on L/c terms. Bcaz Till date i never heard from a single person that a single chinese supplier has return back the deposit...

Hello and sorry to hear your story and what did you do to attract so much problems - trying to act rich which is a NO-NO in China. Just for your info - I am also from KL , Malaysia and have being working in and out of China for over 15 years so yes , you have being well conned as you had believed that the amount was so small as not to worry about this. You should have got a local contact to protect you and learn the local rules which is the same in Malaysia as Chinese drivers drives thru kampong and accidently kill a chicken which can cause big big problems for the driver.. Or walking thru East End in London or thru Harlem in New York at night - well dress and flashing gold and diamond necklaces. These are all NO-NO.
As to your question - Yes you can TT in advance BUT ONLY after you have being in business with them for sometime and know the company and people. BUT 1st time business - definately NO. However , in your case , the industrial standard maybe different in the sense that deposit is pre-paid - followed by final payment before shipment as in the mould field - then you MUST have a local QC / trading company to protect your interest.
Try no to give out too much information as to your margins , profit etc as this can easily attrach a lot of un-wanted guest/friends and also as you said - just 1 in a 1000 being a conman is bad for your resume and business - not to mention your reputation so do be careful and good luck,
Wish you the best of luck..

I started buying in China and T/T all my payments. Find the right company and its not an issue. Legit companies treat you very well when they can provide and treat you like "God".
Do your homework and it isnt a problem or start on a small order even after you do your homework.
If it was that easy to import and make some money, everyone would do it. Those who do their homework and think things through and try not to retire on a few deals will usually be most successful.

! Avoid Shenzhen Dollars
Shenzhen Dollars Co., Ltd. (The truth about this company)
Hello everyone,
I will save you the time and the money you were thinking of sending this company. We sent more the $10 000 USD to this company. Everything they sent were either broken, counterfit, and or used. They claim they will fix it but never do. We lost a lot of money to these people. Please think twice taking the next step of sending money to them.
We sent back 10 Nokia 9500's that were broken our of 20. That is 50% of the stock. And when it got to customs they did not pay the fee for China customs (that we would pay if they simply paid and ask us to pay) and China customs confescated the phones since they were probably counterfit. They told me it's tough luck. My brother lost $1000 as well to this company. Everything you send back for repair never get's back to you or comes more broken.
DO NOT TRUST THEM.
