what's the point of putting "[em2]" as an answer?? FOB stands for "free on board" and it means that the goods will be delivered by the supplier to the port from which they are sent to you.

Yes you are right about Free On Board (FOB) but the complete definition is:

A trade term requiring the seller to deliver goods on board a vessel designated by the buyer. The seller fulfills its obligations to deliver when the goods have passed over the ship's rail.

When used in trade terms, the word "free" means the seller has an obligation to deliver goods to a named place for transfer to a carrier.

Hi all,

I still not quite understand. So FOB shanghai, is that mean

1,the goods are delivered from shanghai to my destination, all in charge of the supplier;

2,or it means the goods will be delivered to shanghai port, and the supplier will then be discharged, and all the responsibility after that goes to the buyer.

Which one is correct?[em9]

shipper is responsible for the risk and cost till the cargo was lifting over the ship's rail at POD..

For Example, when the container is lifting up to load onto the board of ship, but accident happens,the container droped down and the cargo dammaged...so how to differ the responsibility?..

consignee shall take the responsibility if the container already lifted over the shiprail,otherwise shipper do
