in reality someday somehow the people who may be interested only to copy your product will eventually get hold of the sample/product in the open market, and the product can then be taken apart, reversed engineered and copied. there's no way to stop that in the real cruel world.
the best thing to do now is to have it patented, and name branded. a process/technology can be registered/patented, but i'd strongly go for branding too. copycats can reproduce fakes, but a brand is something that cannot be copied as easily.
have the product patented, and most importantly create a brand name for it. get legal advise to register the brand.
in asia now there're lots of cheap fakes, but everytime i buy i still go for the brand and dont mind paying premium because i know quality stands behind the brands. not so with fakes, they're cheap mostly but of inferior quality and unreliable.
it still pays to insist on quality.
