Suppose that two options are open to you:
1. you have to turn around very fast independently,
or
2. you have to turn around very fast gripping a pillar.
Which of these options will ensure that the chance of yours falling down are minimal?
Of course the second option, you will answer unhesitatingly. You are unlikely to fall down if you hold a pillar as a prop firmly and spin round.
Going by the same logic, we can conclude that we do need a firm pillar to support us in lifes rotation to prevent our fall.God can be the firm pillar and devotion, the grip.

Please remember God is ONE. His menifestations could be many.
To understand it in a simple manner, just as the concept of Money is same all over the world but the type of currencies used as a tool of money are different in different countries.Currencies like US $, UK Pound, Euro, Indian Rupee (INR) etc., all are one in one sense - all represent Money but have different physical forms and shapes.
Similarly, you as a "Moolan" is One as a soul but you, in your physical form, have different identities for different persons around you, like - a daughter for your parents; a grand-daughter for your grand-parents; a wife for your husband; a sister for your brothers & sisters; a student for your teacher, aunt for your nephews and nieces, a friend for your friends etc. etc.. And you in the form of "Moolan" responds to the needs of each one according to your relationships with them. Similarly, God's response towards us is as per our own feelings for HIM.

If I'm a ballet dancer...I'll choose the first...then...Even in a ballet dance, untill you achieve the highest level of perfection, concentration and balance of your mind and body, chances are always there of slipping or falling down in the absense of any support. During learning process, the students of ballet dance need support of their teachers who are always there to hold them firmly. This theory/philosophy holds true in real life also.

The word is "unlikely" and not "likely". Thanks for bringing this typing mistake to my notice which had changed the entire meaning. It has been corrected. I thank you.

In contrast, according to my own faith, I choose the first one.
I choose the first one is not because I disbelieve there is/are a higher diety(ies) above us or I have/had no faith. Rather, I believe that we human beings have to have utmost faith through our own heart, our ownself.
If God(s) created us, then we should not disappoint God by being more independent, stronger, and more faith in ourselves. It is the same analogy as the Father and Son. As a father myself, I will be happier to see my young son growing up to be having faith on himself more than having me as his pillar forever in his life.
Unlike the stories and fairy tales written, told and glorified, it is my belief that God(s) do not participate nor interfere or create an event for certain people on Earth for cosmic/godly reason. Else, God(s) is showing favoritism. For example, God rewarded me with lots of wealth and happiness because I have faith in HIM, or, God had punished me because I have no faith in HIM. It can be true to many people, but logically if this statement is true, then there will always be black and white, and there will never be gray. But the fact is there are lots of godless rich people dying happy with life fullfiled.
I believe God(s) judge us on the basis of how strong our faith in ourselves and how well we treat other human being. Not by judging us with points for showing how faithful we are to God(s).
Moreover, gripping on the pillar too long will tend to make some of us complacent, dependent, unindustrious, and unpersevering. That is not the life I would want to live.
In business world, losing faith and losing oneself is very so easy we tend to give in to our God(s). But why shouldn't we have faith in the government, family, friends, and ourselves to make things happened just for ourselves, and be happy?

I would like to interpret your example of father and son like this:
You, as a father, would be happy to see your son growing up independently but you will always be there behind him to protect him during his infant stage; giving him right advises, directions in life whenever he would need the same from you. Taking actions will always be the part of your son.
Similarly, your son during his infant stage, having full faith and devotion in you as a father, would keep in his subconscious mind that you are always with him, behind him as a pillar to protect him time to time. Even your silent presence in the house will keep giving him strength to move forward more confidently.
This unquestioned faith and devotion is the linking cord between you and your son which keeps you both moving on without any fear.Faith and devotion of your son in you as a father is his "grip" and you, as a father, are a "piller" for your son.
Most of us in this world are at our infant stage of "realization" and GOD, as a father, is therefore always with us to guide us and even protect us whenever required provided we have full faith and devotion in HIM.
Those who have achieved the ultimate stage of "realization", GOD (the supreme power) become their part and are always with them, in them.
This is what I feel.

Your words (as I underlined) are showing your full faith in God with full devotion. This is the "grip" of your faith and devotion in GOD ( who is like a "piller" here). And if this grip of yours around the piller (i.e.faith) is firm enough, it will keep you moving without any fear of falling down. So, I feel, you have also chosen the IInd option and therefore not differing from my opinion.

Faith in myself vs Faith in God.
If my father had faith in me, I will do well in the presence of my father. If my father does not have faith in me, I will definitely will not do well.
However, even if my father have or have no faith in me, as long as I have faith in myself, everything will be well under all circumstance.
Anyway, human are fragil, God is the pillar for many. Whatever works for you, I shall not question his/her faith.
I still have faith in the God almighty in other area, but I think I should start with myself first.

Having faith in oneself is the most important factor in life for keeping moving forward. Even in a situation where a son looses his faith in himself and starts feeling depressed, it is the father who inspires his son to re-gain his faith in himself. It happens because father knows that his son is his very much attached to him and he is in need of his moral support and right directions. Father cannot do things on his son's behalf. A father is always an inspiration for his son.
Similarly, divine forces (God) do help us whenever we are in need.
It is the famous saying,"God helps those, who help themselves."
Swami Vivekanand, a great Indian scholar saint had said once the following words which I feel are quite relevant here. I hope you will also agree to this. Though I have already posted it earlier but this is just to refresh it.
" When I Asked God for Strength
He Gave Me Difficult Situations to Face
When I Asked God for Brain & Brown
He Gave Me Puzzles in Life to Solve
When I Asked God for Happiness
He Showed Me Some Unhappy People
When I Asked God for Wealth
He Showed Me How to Work Hard
When I Asked God for Favours
He Showed Me Opportunities to Work Hard
When I Asked God for Peace
He Showed Me How to Help Others
God Gave Me Nothing I Wanted
He Gave Me Everything I Needed"
There could be a possibility of someone getting "over-confident" if he has faith "only" in himself and that proves to be disastrous sometimes. But having faith in himself with devotion & faith in GOD and Divine forces always proves to be beneficial for a person. It also restricts someone becoming over-confident. This is the way I feel.
