How will I do in this situation
Post 1 of 23

Hello, this is Happy from Jingri. One customer asked me for samples free of charge today.Their parts are special, the cost will be high,so I can't meet his needs.I also list our reasons why we have to charge him.He can understand us,and he told me that they had bad experience of samples from other suppliers, hence, they won't pay the samples fee for this item.I promised to him our samples won't be charged if it is failed in quality. He is silent,no message from him.

It will be greatly appreciated if some one can be of assistance to me,thanks!

Best regards!

As a buyer I look at it this way:

There is 100+ companies offering almost anything I want on Alibaba.

If I throw money around 100+ companies will happily send me samples - in many instances trying to rip me off.

If I refuse to pay for samples, or refuse to pay a rip off price, then only a few serious companies will proceed. The rip of merchants that want $100 for a $2 item disappear.

Then I just have to select the best offer out of the few. And if the samples are useless/faulty (as sometimes happens) I haven't lost any money.

Yes! I agree with you.

As a buyer, it is hard to choose which supplier would have the best quality of products before evaluating the samples.   It is wasting time, not only the sample fee, if there is over 100 supplier provide the similar thing.

However, most of the cases I have experience, if they have confidence to their products, they will not charge the sample fees.  Because, they have confidence you will place the order to them after receiving their quality products.   Even, some of the manufacturer would not charge me the freight cost.   They showed me they are the most reliable supplier.   Of course, they are one of the suppliers I will consider seriously.

Besides, you should consider if the buyer is a serious buyer or just asking for sample for the promotional or advertising purpose.

If your sample is not expensive and easy available, why don't we send customer a free sample, it is a chance to let customer know our products.

I am a newbie too, working in a baby stroller processing manufacture. I sent a sample to a customer in Canada last week. What should I do in order to get his first order?

I will advise you to understand your customer better before you make the samples for them.Frankly,I believe your customer is interested in your products. If I were you, I will make the samples for the customer, because the customer will promote your products in their market. In the international business, You maybe sacrifice your benefit to start your business. Don't you think so?
I agree on this. But we need to do some research on the buyer. And also one important thing is how much the sample cost. If the sample costs a lot and everyday tens of buyers ask for it,  it seems a great burden for the seller as well. How do you think?
