Do you really know the difference between retailer, wholesaler, agent and distributor? especially for business process and different characters during purchasing?

I distinguish like this; retailer who sell the products to final clients, wholesaler is who buy from producer and sell to retailer, agent is intermediary btw whosaler and producer or an identity who deal with producer in the name of wholsaler, distributor is a wholesaler who work for one producer or one brand and who can have exclusivities to trade the products of this producer

it is a different form of terms usage .
1st level - factory
2nd level - Importer ( import the goods )
3rd level - Wholesales ( sell goods by bulk ) or Distributor ( appointed importer )
4th level - Retailer ( sell to end user ) or agents ( usually for branded products )
The different level can fall into the grey areas as the market is very dynamic and businessman try to cut intermediate parties to increase profit . example fty selling direct to consumer - it very much depends on the business model .

That is a problem between manufactures and trade company .
manufacture →general agent→first-level agent →second-level agent distributor→branch distributor→ retailer
agent: as a business agent in a city or certain area .
distributor:as a business selling non-area-limited company .
that's all i can suggest .

I am new here but I want to know HOW to you tell who is really what?
For example, I was looking for SanDisk and found companies and their site said, "We are manufactures of shoes . . . . ". But yet they were selling SanDisk ?
And I Googled several companies only to find lots of complaints against them.
How do I find the "real" manufacturer and or distributer ?
