I think management degree plus experience would be best. But actually doing business in the real world, as opposed to 'reviewing case studies' in a classroom, is the toughest test. Ultimately success usually calls for a combination of management knowledge (which may be acquired with experience plus a bit of self-study - for those non-degree holders), persistenc, integrity, and real hard work (or working smart), and in many cases luck do come into play i.e right time, right place, right people. Some things are still beyond our control - remember the last big tsunami..?
