It was my own fault but should I keep on this low profit business?

I gave 5% dicount in the fair for this Lebanon customer, actually, 3% is the maximum, I tried to explain to him I made a mistake and it was my personal fault, this had nothing to do with my company, but he refused to raise up the price a bit. He is a new customer placed the order in the fair, I don’t really want to lose new customers but we just cannot use our 1 week production capacity making such a low profit order forever.

I asked my boss to give it up, but my boss said if he had power in his region, this would probably do harm to our repulation in Lebanon. So, what should I do then? Maybe raise the price back to normal from him second order? Or finding an exclusive agent in Lebanon with good selling price and nolonger sell to them?

Can I put him company name here? I want to know if he really had power in Lebanon, if no, I will rethink of taking back the order.

I feel so guilty but my boss didn’t blame me at all, thanks! Dear boss!

In your case which it was a calculator mistake, that buyer had no morals.

It might make a difference when someone quotes a price and then realize they made a mistake then maybe the buyer might think you are raising the price. Although, we are humans. But, if you made a mathematical mistake while converting currency the buyer  well knows that it is a mistake and should allow you to re-calculate.

It has happen to me as a buyer and I would accept the change, but not all of us are the same. Also, I believe in god and if I cheat somebody I know I will loose that profit at the end or somebody else will cheat me....Its the law of the land.

I am also a seller and when this happens to me, I will cordially tell the customer "No, I cannot give that price" and guess what? god would send me a better buyer. Or, if you give that person what he wants, tell him to enjoy it while he can.

Use this as a learning experience,  and next order relax and double check your calculations .

Be honest with the customer tell him you made an error and will only be able to take one order at that price and it must be paid in full within the terms of the contract and if there are any changes to the contract the price will revert to the actual price that you were supposed to quote .  changes include , date paid ,container sizes .

this is a part of learning you need to learn to be calm but firm  you can only offer terms but if you bend too far there is no profit . Your customer is aware that with no profit the order is not valuable to you .

Every customer and suppliers are not the same in the world. Some suppliers are only cared about their profit, even if they had profit, they dont want to accept lower profit. But some buyers, they dont want to increase any extra cost, too. When the buyer understand you, they'll accept increase or so called correct price, if no, they'll refuse. To do or not, it depends on the loyality or the actual situation of the buyer.

When your have quoted a customer a price, you stick to the price but on repeat business you quote your new price and increase it to make up the loss on the first order and then you stick to your new price.   Don't budge or you have lost the game.   If the customer is happy with your product and service on his first order, a small price increase will not make that great a difference in the end.   Selling is a game, it's like fishing, you must play your customer with your baits you have available.   I've been selling for over 30 years now and have sold to every type of buyer in the market place.
