honest sellers

I would like to know if there is one honest seller on Alibaba. I have found that even truspass gold members are frauds. They take someone elses name and profile list items they don't have then contact you through emails. I had one Ali Cambell offering me tomtoms then told me extras were placed in the box and to pay for the extras then I would receive tracking number. That was the last time I heard from him. I contacted again through Alibaba and he said " I don't sell tomtoms". My question is how can a small business who can't afford to fly to China find someone who will actually send him what he bought. I am not sure about TNT because I sent money to them and they told me the product was damaged in shipping. It has been more than 2 weeks and no word from them. I know Alibaba has been around for some time so someone must be actually selling stuff. I know I am probably opening myself up to more scammers but I would like to know other peoples experiences. maybe Alibaba should have some sort of feedback system. Also does anyone know about how customs works. another company Mega gps told me my item was held up in customs and I would have to pay more to get it released. Then they told me it would cost $700 to have my address confirmed so they will ship it to me (no I did not pay that. I am stupid but not that stupid) I know I am asking a lot of questions I should have asked first but any help would be appreciated.

There many real suppliers on Alibaba but like anywhere you will get the odd ones that pop up and cause problems.
The main thing is for you to have more understanding about the products and the business in China as suppliers.
Do you own due diligence as its your business and money.
Tom Tom GPS in China, well i have never seen a real supplier to date, all i have seen are scams.
China GPS products will not be cheap on the market place, i can buy in UK for atop brand at £69 with maps, why i should pay £50 more without maps and no branded?
Check the prices before you send money, and if products are branded most common to be a non factory, so how are they getting the products, like Nokia phones we see suppliers selling copies, just like the real phone without the brand name.

Replying to [drdonmm]: Sourcing in China is not simple as you wished. You need to communicate very clearly with the suppliers about the raw materials, specifications, packing, payment terms and shipping. And you have to have every things confirmed. As to the payment, many suppliers prefer T/T, since they could get money very soon. But thet could be something risk for you. I suggest you can select L/C, it would cost a little higher but safer for you.
