I've worked in my company for more than half a year since graduating from school. Till now I also don't familiar with our products very well especially some spec about performance. I remembered that I also looked through our catalogue, recited some products English name and visited our production department for short days. In fact, I didn't get much from that. I think the best way to learn more about our products is dealing with a real business. During a bisiness, we will get some questions from the customer. Meanwhile, we must try to slove them so that we also learn something about our products. Of course, it's just my idea. Hope it's will be suitable for you.

Keep a very good relation from colleagues who have a lot of experience, be very closed to the factory people who used your products. Months after months those people will give you some important tips on your products and this will help a lot. Don't forget to keep always in touch with the latest technology. Be patient, smile and keep it up....

Very interesting subject for Sales person in a company.

[em1] Being a girl, gives you a better advantage because the men are in the factory, if you ask them for help or advise, they will be much willing to share their expertise with you.

Someone said experience, and others said go to the workshop, not stay in the office all the time. tairaizo said keep a good relation from colleagues who have a lot of experience, be very closed to the factory people who used your products.

All the guidelines, you can keep, but you also have to learn it from your own research. I remembered when I started as a salesman, I bring the catalogues home and read, I went through the details, such as the specifications and applications. I question myself why, what, where, when and how (4W and 1H), and tried to find the answers myself from the books or even go to the library to research. It is easier to ask your colleagues, but I find it not easy, as the floor people are very busy with their work, nobody will take their time to sit down and tell you everything, and besides, they only know how to make the product, but may not know the answers to the 4w and 1h.

Let me start with an example, it is easier to do case studies than talking things in abstract. If your company makes Pressure Gauges for example.

The questions you may ask: What is this product used for? Why do the product need this product? Are there alternative or substitute products that could do to replace this pressure gauge? What are the application and who are the users of this product. How many types of the product are there available in the market? Why are some measurement units different from others? What is PSI and PSIG? What is the pressure of the air in the atmosphere, and why do they say absolute pressure and gauge pressure (PSIG). What does PSI stands for? Pounds per square inch. Why are some measurement units in Bar, KPa, kg/cm2, KN/M2, etc. How do they relate to each other. How much is the value of the gauge, what is the working principle?

Well, Good points! For our end, we can learn products by studing form catalogue, colleague, and people form workshop. Meanwhile, by getting orders from clients, we can learn more and faster. Our clients always have different discription or understanding of the products, so this is a good way for us to learn them from any angles. During this process, we will become professional.
