silly shipping quotes

Recently I contacted a list of suppliers to get quotes to bring in stock products
( small net washing bags for laundry aprox 25x25 cm )
these are all companies that advertise that these are regular stock
well many of the companies never answered
those that did had unrealistic shipping on any quantity under 10,000
and they wanted to charge me extra for special fabric ?????? I did not require special fabric only what they advertised so bags they told me were 0.17 to 0.29 each would have ended up costing me over 2.00 per item I wanted these for a customer give away I do not mind spendoingh up to 0,50 with the shipping ( I can buy them retail in the US lower than the 2.00 )
product weight is 12g or 0.40 oz
companies offered to send free samples but wait >>>> they want 100.00 or more USD to ship the sample
wonder why Americans are wary ? an Item that should cost 1-4.00 to ship air letter post and I am told 100.00 to ship an item
why not learn how to ship small samples in a less costly manor
