Helpful For Buys
Post 1 of 8

Be very careful with any seller that requests payment in advance by T/T (telegraphic transfer), also known

as bank wire. This is a tricky one because some legitimate international sellers do require money by T/T in

advance. Sometimes it is a deposit, and sometimes they want the full amount. Before sending money by

T/T, make sure you ask for the following:
- Seller’s full name

- Seller’s address

- Seller’s telephone number

- Seller’s company name

- Seller’s business license number

- Seller’s bank’s name & telephone number

- A scan or faxed copy of seller’s identification card or driver’s license

- References from companies the seller has worked with before, preferably in your country

Tell the seller you need this information to run a thorough background check. You can then use a ser vice to run a background check on them.

You can also hire a buying agent in the seller’s

country to go to the seller’s physical location and buy the items for you in person, and then ship them to

you.

Do a Google search for “international buying agents” to locate buying agents that you could possibly

work with. Most charge a reasonable fee to securely buy for you.[em19]

I have a different opinion about this if you are buying from factories in China.

Legit factories have standard operating practice for dealing with buyers and going into the detail that you are requesting is not the standard. So by asking for all of these things I think that you will find that sellers realize that you are not what they would consider a professional buyer.

I think that your advice would work well when dealing with scammers as it would help to avoid them, but it would cause a problem if you were dealing with legit factories.

I think a better practice is the following:

a. First off ensure that you can legally buy the product that you are trying to buy and that the seller can legally sell it to you. In the case of foreign brand name products you can exclude manufacturers in Asia as there are none that can sell directly to you anyway.

b. TT payment is a legit payment method used by legit sellers, the important thing here is to only pay to company bank accounts. Scammers almost exclusively ask you to pay to individual bank accounts for a whole host of reasons so avoiding paying individuals is going to help you avoid scammers.

c. Always visit the supplier to check them and the production BEFORE you release final payment and ship out the goods. This costs money of course but no one who does this losses their money, it is only the people who dont do this who get scammed out of their money.

You have to spend money to make money and if you dont invest in ensuring that the goods are correct before you pay for them then no matter what else you have done trying to verify the seller you will still lose your money.

I do agree with Egernia's opinion. Seller will not be willing to fax you the license or drivers's license, they have never do business with you, who knows what you will do with their license, so that is impossible for you to get these, unless it is a newbie.

In fact, using an agent is rather profitable than buying directly from factory, when you send the agent to the factory, they can tell the factory that he is the representative of your company, so that would give a good impresion to the factory that you are a big and good buyer, and professional.
