My client ask for 50% discount of the model price. We quota the price is 1.08$ of our item , client ask for discount, we want to do business with customer, make some concession 0.98usd, this is our bottom price, the client request again, we think it's very hard to give client some discount for us. We ask customer give us their target price.

We are very surperise to know that they give us 0.58usd.

How do I reply the client?

Pls give me some suggestion.

Customers look for better pricing for a number of reasons..

1. they have serious competition and the decrease of a few % is really important...To penetrate the market, establish a niche, etc..cover early promotional costs, etc. they may need more. For these people it will be worth hearing their strategy. But do not sacrifice all your profit for them. Then see if they continue buying and become loyal customers, who accept necessary price rises due to exchange rate, raw material costs, etc.

2. Customers who just want to increase profit. They may throw out a number like 50%, 30% or whatever..and will be happy with the extra 10% you give. They may or may not continue with this over the years. It might just be an opening reply. Be honest with them..They will learn to trust you.

3. Customers who feel this is a necessary part of doing business..Like proving they are not suckers They want to show "who is boss". Be firm with them and tell them that you do not do business this way. (Not so easy, at the beginning to discover who is this type and who really has a problem..)

IMPORTANT...If you want to meet their price..but must lower quality to do so LET THEM KNOW!!! This way they will learn that you really have reached a limit. They will also be able to make an honest decision about what they want. In the end they may prefer to pay more and get the better quality.

Good luck.

Quoting from[the other perspective]:

Replying to [boerqin]: What I see often on this site is Chinese sellers pretending they are experiencing the same financial set of criteria in their businesses that a New Yorker such as I might be dealing with. Their Cost Basis is every way has NOTHING to do with ours and therefore selling price doesn't compare in any way with a product made in the US or European country. They however grab for a minimum of 500% and upward of profit shamlessly and have the gaul to act shocked if they are asked to lower their wholesale container load to a price where they will only be making 300% profit per unit!! Disgusting!!

One who makes the above comments is so...DISGUSTING..!! A real business man such as a New Yorker would have never think it in that way. You are such a stupid * and dumb *... em16]

hi,
Sometimes i aslo meet to like those client who wants at least 40% lower price than my offer.I feel like they think i am a foolish if his bid at leas 40% lower than my price.Because it is abvious that either he/she does not know the market or she/he thinks i do not know the market or he/she is looking for fun,
let me tell what i am doing in such cases. first i re-quote him with better price i can offer and if he/she still insist on me reducing the price , my last messege would be about that i could not do anymore discount with explaining market condition and require and better price he /she got from other companies, otherwise she /he can look other companies. that is all if my price is interested for he/she ,would respond me better bargain obtions.
am i righ?
and what have you done? pls share with us

Some customer don't have the target price. If that is your bottom price, so you should reply them that is the lowest price what you can do.

if there is no any other lower price than you in the market and you are sure about the quality you offer and the value you request, stand strong on your price and even tell them "you can go to other suppliers, this is  my price!"  you will see, they  will come back to you again  and this time  you will have the chance to set the terms and conditions.

Unit price is USD1.08 /pc? the value of your sample is quite low, how many  unites does your customer want to have? If he just want to ahve one or two items, I think it is no problem for you to give him sample free of charge, as long as he agrees to pay for the freight. It is worth to send some samples to get some real business in return. But sometimes, buyers who ask for samples are not real buyer. In our company, the sample fee is much higher than its original unit price.
