calculating QTY for 20ft and 40ft HC
Post 42 of 47
Hello Jackstar,

Seems everybody forgets about the weight... If you want to pack 160 or more you'd have to know the weight... You can load 28000 kg (sorry - I'm a metrics guy) in a 40 FCL. That translates to (if 160 units are to be packed). So when their weight (including crate) is more than 175 kg each...

the easiest way to roughly calculate the volume is: cbm of container/cbm of product.

So for 20 FCL: 33/(0,75*0,65*0,72) = 94 (if they are up to 212 kg)

For 40 FCL: 67/(0,75*0,65*0,72) =190 at most (but not if they are 175 kg...)

It doesn't work though if you exceed the height.

65 width, calculate 67 (you need some space to manoeuver) can go against the backside 3,5 times, so you lose space... 75 (calculate 77) can go there 3,1 times. So that's less space lost. 40 ft/12.1 meter: in that direction you don't need the space, so calculate 65 cm:

JUST not 19, so 18. Each layer is: 3 x 18 = 54. So stack 'em up 3 layers high: 162 in total.

Quoting from [jackstar]:

hello, i am in the progress of ordering some cement mixers and the supplier has provided a quantity of 160 units per 40ft container. The measurements are 75x65x72

Does anyone know how to calculate the quantities for a 20ft container or even a 40ft hc container?.

Hello Jackstar:

I made a search for that and got that nice answer and calculator that will help u..

Calculate the volumetric weight of your shipment

Sometimes, large items with a light overall weight can be charged according to the space they take up on aircraft. In these cases, Volumetric Weight, or dimensional (Dim) weight, is used to calculate the shipment cost. It is recommended that you calculate the Volumetric Weight for every shipment that you send, then compare this to its actual weight. The greater weight of the two is used to work out the price that we charge you.

International Volumetric Weights are calculated using the formula below:

(Length x Width x Height in centimeters) / 6000 = Volumetric Weight in kilograms

Calculating the CBM

Calculate the cubic metre (or cubic foot ), volume and quantity per shipping container .

Want to get a quick and easy calculation of how many of your product(s) will fit in a shipping container?

Here’s a simple and fast way of doing it to get an approximate quantity.

free CBM Calculator

http://www.ginifab.com/feeds/cbm/

How to use it

  1. Enter the dimensions of the packaged product (outer shipping carton).
  2. Enter the carton weight .
  3. Enter the quantity of cartons .

Load ability of ocean containers

  • 20'ft container 26-28 CBM
  • 40'ft container 56-58 CBM
  • 40'ft HQ container 60-62 CBM

Please note that this calculator is intended only as a quick guide. Actual loading will depend on accurate calculations based on how the items are loaded in the container and whether the dimensions of the cartons leave unusable space. Load factors will vary based on carton size and how they are stowed inside the containers.

Copied...
