calculating QTY for 20ft and 40ft HC
Post 12 of 47
Quoting from [jackstar]:

hello, i am in the progress of ordering some cement mixers and the supplier has provided a quantity of 160 units per 40ft container. The measurements are 75x65x72

Does anyone know how to calculate the quantities for a 20ft container or even a 40ft hc container?.

1.Know the container inner size, and the products packing size.

2.If only one size, that is much easier to calculate. Be confident everytime.

3.Process:

20ft container:  Width 2350mm/750mm=3pcs    or 2350mm/650mm=3pcs

                            Length 5900mm/650mm=9pcs  or  5900mm/750mm=7pcs

                            Height  2390mm/72mm= 3pcs

You car easy find the 20ft container could load 3*9*3=81pcs.  This is in theory, and suppose the packing carton size is very strict.

4. Re-check the sizes.

And for width and height , there are some samll space, when load in container that would be easier.

But need to pay more attention to the length, 650mm*9=5850mm, 5900-5850=50mm.

The is only 50mm for the space between the carton and carton.

So, when loading in the container, need more efforts.

If not, the 20ft container would load 3*8*3=72pcs at most.

5.You can calculate the loading qty in 40HC now. Just try.

Good luck![em1]

Optimum contents in your measuring  units for 20 ft is 81 units and 40 ft hc is 192 units

hi, Jackstar,[em1]

if you want to know the quantites for a 20ft container, you need to know the dimension of the outer carton of the goods first. then calculate the cubage of the carton. normally the cubage of a 20ft container is 28 m3. Use 28 devide by the cubage of the carton, you will know how many cartons will be put into a 20ft container. Then you will know how many pieces will be contained in a 20ft container.

for example:

The measurement of the carton for  cement mixers is 75x65x72, it means the cubage of the carton is (75x65x72)/1000000=0.351m3.

the quantity of the carton for a 20ft container is: 28/0.351=80 cartons

the quantity of cement mixers for a 20ft container is: 80xquantity of a carton.

I hope that above information is helpful to you.

any further queries, please feel free to let me know.

u need to know the size of 1 unit (length x width x height) in centimeters like

58x 58 x 35 is the size of i unit u can calculate 0.58*0.58*0.35 whatever answer comes is the cubic meter of one unit then u can multiply with no. of units that will be the total volume.

1 x 40' normal container fits 58 cbm

1 x 40' High Cube fits 68 cbm

1 x 20' container fits 28 cbm

CBM = 0.75x0.65x0.72 = 0.351cbm /Bag

Total = 0.351 x 160 = 56.16 cbm / 160 units

Shipping Containers:

Ther is several containers but two type is most popular: 20 ft(foot) and 40 foot (40' or 40ft).

They have various dimensions and load different loads:

20ft container:

20ft GP

Weight

2300 kg/5070 lb

Max Payload

28180 kg/62130 lb

Max Gross Weight

30480 kg/67200 lb

Internal Dimension:

length

5898 mm /19' 4" inch

width

2352 mm /7' 9" inch

height

2393 mm /7' 10" inch

Door Opening dimension:

2340 mm/ 7' 8" inch  * 2280 mm /7' 6" inch

Cubic Capacity 33.2 M3 (Cube metre)/1172 ft 3

40ft container:

40ft GP

Weight

3750 kg/8270 lb

Max Payload

28750 kg/63380 lb

Max Gross Weight

32500 kg/71650 lb

Internal Dimension:

length

12032 mm 39' 6" inch

width

2352 mm 7' 9" inch

height

2393 mm 7' 10" inch

Door Opening dimension :

2340 mm/ 7' 8" inch * 2280 mm /7' 6" inch

Cubic Capacity 67.7 M3 /2392 ft 3

You should know dimension of packing and weight of each pack and then calculate numbers of packings may be load in a container (refer to dimension and load of a container).

160 pcs in a 40ft makes maximum allowable gross weight per unit 180 kgs subject to road restrictions.

If the units weighs less and the measurements are true (no plus tolerance of importance)you may load additional units up to max allowable container gross weight till the container is filled. Obviously the units are strong enough to allow three high stacking in the container. Last stack at door may not be able to stack more than two high due to door height, but that can be calculated if needed. A 40 ft High Cube (1 ft extra height) will not increase the numbers except eventually the three extra units at door position. If there is no problem with gross weight the extra space in a 40ft HC allows additional light weight cargo on top.

Answer: 40'GP= 56-58CBM. AS the goods you load is big, so you could count CBM as 56CBM.  The supplier's qty.: 0.75*0.65*0.72*160=56.16CBM, just could fill 40' GP.

20' CONTAINER=27-32CBM. The goods are big, you just could use 27 CBM, so you could load 77 units.

40'HQ= 66-68CBM, You could load 188 units.

BEST REGARDS
