WHY JAPANESE SPENDING 80 BILLION DOLLARS ON ENGLISH LEARNING
Post 1 of 2

According to latest reports, Japanese Government is spending more than 80 Billion US Dollars on programme(s) for Japanese people learning english language.

There was a time when Japanese considered it a matter of pride to use only the Japanese language.

What changed all this? Is it not a fact that Modern age has transformed most knowledge in english.

Has it not become imperative to learn english or become deprived of the latest as well as future knowledge?

I call it cultural imperialism. The Anglo-American won the wor and they imposed,de-facto, their language to the world. You may not like it, but it's the truth. Plus Japanese is a bloody difficult language to master properly (I have studied it for more than 10 years and still I have A LOT to learn...)

Cheers
