We have a Supplier And No End User!
Post 1 of 11
How do you find an end user of Mineral Ores?

We are an American based company, and have primarily sourced other products besides mineral ore and got involved from a business associate that is also affiliated with one of the largest mineral ore suppliers in the world?

The problem is the so-called buyers/agents/scammers cannot produce an authentic bill of lading, because they are not in contact with an end user!

Once we check the bill of lading our supplier would like to know who the company is to see if there is a previous relationship and if there is not they will be required to submit a Full Bid: Target price, What the smelter requires, Desired contract length, etc. Then our supplier will submit an offer!

Most agents/companies/scammers/ cannot produce past bill of ladings? They are public documents!

How do we find someone genuine buyer?

This is a real test on your marketing skills. Past BL history certainly will not reveal whether you are a real seller/Owner or the End Importer/User. More often than not the real problem lies in weeding out Traders/Spammers/Brokers who on many occassions act as sellers/buyers and sign contracts. So long as you know where your mineral can be used and you are dealing directly with end users only, I do not foresee any problem. To illustrate if you are dealing with steel units as buyers of your iron ores, there will not be any problem. In case you identify buyer cl *, try to enter into long term business relationships. Through proper study of buyer profile only you can identify your end user.

Are you asking the right Questions when you receive requests? If you are engaging in some questions and answer with your potential buyers (Notice: The word POTENTIAL) they should be able to provide you with answers.

Most successful salespeople or negotiators know how to ask the right questions and never rush into a business deal. Also, when dealing with other cultures / people / countries outside the United States, remember your business deals will not move as fast. Here in the United States, however, we are used to making a phone, fax or email a few times and the deal is DONE!!!!

In Asia and Middle East regions of the world for instance you cannot rush. The best part is asking the right questions, follow up when you receive a reply and have fun along the way. When you do receive a fake B/L, be very classy about it. For instance you can say to him/her:

(Whenever the time is right and you are ready to purchase, contact me for your supply. In the meantime, we will continue to seek other buyers at this time....and so forth.)

Anyhow, this could be a great opportunity to create questions for the next client that send you a request.

1. Who are your end users....
2. How much quantity do you need....
3. How soon do you need the delivery.....

When you ask the right questions, your clients will take you more serious. Also, your client should ask you questions as well. And, you should be ready to answer any of their technical questions. This is building the relationship, trust and knowledge about each other. In other words, they should be building trust that you will delivery. You on the other hand want to know if they are willing to send money to purchase.

You and the client should go over pricing details, technical details, delivery or destination details, payment terms, freight terms (ocean/air freight) and forth way, way, way before the B/L....

Assuming you and your client negotiated all these details together, the B/L should be the last thing you receive because you and your client should decide which Freight Forwarder (or Fedex, UPS, DHL) is going to ship the goods. Unless your client is a very large company and conduct shipping from their company, they produce their own B/L. However, in most cases you and your client will use an outside freight forwarder and they will provide the B/L electronically to you or your bank and then your bank will release the money in your account when that B/L is stamped by the freight forwarder.

So, start with asking the right questions and you will almost know when a serious buyer(s) is willing to put the time in building a business deal or relationship with you.

I hope this help and wish you the best

Do you have any tips on marketing more successfully to weed out the brokers and find the end users? We are not wasting as much time as we used to with buyers that are not genuine, we have learned to weed them out more quickly but successfully marketing to find the end users has been anything but an easy task!

Thank you! Your information will be very helpful. However, Due to the amount of fraud over the internet our supplier will not release any specifications, prices, etc. The do not want to be implicated in the frauds that are happening abundantly over the internet when a potential buyer or fraudster gets a genuine sellers specifications, prices, etc. and uses the information to shop for a buyer by copying and pasting your information and passing it on as there own or trying to commit fraud by having them open a pre-advice letter of credit.

The supplier we deal with is one of the largest in the World. They are aware that 99% of the trade leads via trade portals are not from genuine buyers or sellers. We will explain the fraud situation to the potential buyers and ask them to produce previous b/l from the end user to prove that they are genuine. We tell them that we will sign a NCND if need be, and then, if all checks out, our supplier then will require a full bid to detail what desired contract they would like to obtain.

Maybe we have gotten lucky with the 2 deals that we have closed via the internet in the past 5 years. In those 2 deals they did not have a problem submitting the previous b/l or submitting a full bid.  Maybe the fraud problem has gotten worse since then?  Or maybe we haven't discovered how to change correctly to the change in economic times? Do you have any additional advice for our company? Your replies are greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Please appoint a buying agent in the marketing country or post an executive through Liaison office. Otherwise enter into JV with a reputed marketing Firm.  This is the only way to avoid such situations.
