Post 1 of 13
I know one of you helpful people will know this answer..

We have spent lots of time making our web site and still doing it , and we have spent lots of time and $$ doing market research into China including visits ect,,

Now we find that our customers can NOT open our site in China , we use yahoo for hosting ,, They come up with high tek answers that make no sence to me ,,

Can any one tell me WHY it can not be opened ,, and is there a hosting company or search engine that allows .web pages from Australia to be opened and read

Thanks for your help

By not opening, are your customers seening some sort of error message?  Or, are they seeing a message such as "Your Server not authorized to view this page?  Are you using flash on your home page?

I have run into this problem myself under IE7 but never with Firefox.  Also as previously stated by Usama and Braham check to see if infact your web page designer added a file called .htaccess or altered the IP Deny from the control panel.   Usama may have other answers for this but it would help as I stated earlier to know what those individuals are actually seeing in the form of the browser message.

1- Test your website and see in real-time if it's censored in China or not, visit these links to test it.

2- As Ranger said, you need to know what the error message say. Maybe you can get help from a friend in china.

it is the ISP problem in China, they restrict most websites outside China, not only yahoo australia, but also yahoo Hong Kong, and many foreign websites. people in China can only access their local wesites very fast, for other websites, it depends on their luck.

here is a thought......why dont you set up a clone of your website using chinese provider?

My company is in Japan, but my english website is using US provider. This will reduce access restriction, and allow my US customers to have faster access. It may cost 2 times the amount, but my customers are happy.

Yahoo is an expensive an not very reliable hosting option. However if the problem lasts more than a couple of days, the problem is unlikely to be with Yahoo. Should your site be blocked by the Chinese authorities you can either try to get the block removed if you have lots of patience or you could simply try a different hosting arrangement for the site. Changing the address and the host would certainly give you another equal chance of making the information available in China.

It would be worth reviewing the content of the site. If there is something political, religious, critical or controversial you should either revise the site, prepare to change the address and host regularly or accept that the site will not be available to everyone.
