Dear Pritam,

Though I am not in the travel business, I did my projects during my studies for Marketing degree.

You have to make a business plan, same as all other businesses. You got to study the Opportunities, the market and what potential sales, your Strengths and Weakness and the Threats.

Lets make it simple with an analogy of a farmer growing his crops. Before starting his farming, he has to look for a piece of land, that is fertile and irrigated. He has to determine the size of the land, what crops to plant, how long will it take to fruition, and what are the market demand for it. Farmer also has to calculate the costs of getting the seeds, machinery, manpower and Administration.

Then when he started to plant the seeds, he has to be selective in the type of seeds that will yield high produce and sustaining infection and pests. He has to water the plants, take away the weeds and thorns, and put fertilizers and wait for the plant to grow. While the seedlings are small, they are vulnerable to the weather, birds and insects, he has to watch out for them and keep them out. It takes time, back-breaking work, knowledge and patience. He has to measure the moisture content and pH of the soil and use the right kind of fertilizer. Irrigate the farm bed, and keep the insects away. Locusts, birds, caterpillars, beetles and wasps. If he wants an organic fruit, he does not use the pesticides, but natural predators of the caterpillars birds and insects.

Somewhat similar to growing business.

Deepak

It is very simple. You must do three steps:

1. Marketing.

2. Marketing.

3. Marketing.

Well Pritam my buddy my name is Habib ....Habib is the word for Pritam in Arabic.

My suggestion to you is to focus on season   ... Like I know you live in India and if you market for international tours you can ask you customers to tour Malaysia in the Islamic Month of Ramadan .In Malaysia the tourism is very cheap in Ramadan as there are no tourist from Arab and other Muslim countryes . Your  customer can get all the facitilities at very cheaper rates .Even can enjoy very expensive resorts ...At the same time they can enjoy in less crowded arenas .Usually the ethnic Chinese from Singapore , other parts of Malaysia and also Indians plan to tour Malaysia in Ramadan. This package will be very suitable for Honeymooners who want to be at serenity .

Best of Luck this year .Tell me if you like my suggestion.

The Global economical downturn take hits at the tourism industry.

It happens to every sector of the industries and business except Health Care and Commodities of food and beverages.

The prophets of the commercial and financial domains are pessimistic about the near future of the global situation, and do not anticipate a recovery within the next two quarters, may even extend to the year 2010.  Export based economies are vulnerable to the situations in the countries of their exports, such as US and EU. They have to shift their focus to new markets and countries that are not their traditional markets. India and China will remain strong and will replace the big economies like the US and Europe in the next decade or two.

So, the business has to change its strategies and direction to target Asian markets. They have to use their language and cultural habits to communicate their "product benefits" and create the need. This market is a different playing field in terms of culture, language and perception of needs and wants.

There are new rules, different level of playing field, and cultural values the businesses must adapt and practise to gain the rights to sell their products. To be accepted by the Asian counterpart, it is not merely knowing the language, which is the basic fundamental step every far-sighted business person must recognise. Many good business people are learning the Chinese language to ride the rising tide and capture the business of the next era, doing business with the Chinese, and for the Indians, English language is widely used.
