Quoting from [EZ money]:
Why are customs taking your products exactly? I assume you mean they are seizing them...
Re dealing with Chinese suppliers........ Hire a good agent..... it is well worth the money.

Well I deal with these things on a daily basis. If you are importing items that are illegal you will run into a little snag. Customs can and will take these shipments. Not all shipments but some. There are some suppliers that will pay back the shipments if they are siezed by customs. I do know of a few that will do this and are trust worthy. I can help you with this some if you wish. But alwasy be carefull when sending money by western union. Never buy a large lot over western union or T/T. If you going to import items from China that you think may not be completely ligit... get small amounts of these products. like 4-8 at a time.(shoes) Good Luck

Replying to [EZ money]: Are you getting letters from US Customs with regards to this or are you saying your suppliers are claiming that they are? If your buying fakes they should be confiscated. I suggest you get involved with a customs broker for all future deals. If your not importing fakes I'd say they are being confiscated for reasons that the broker can help you with.

Replying to [EZ money]: That would be correct if they include a pirated copy of the game it would be confiscated under the TRIPS law. Can't you buy them without the game included? We buy unbranded electronics all the time. Its a matter of knowing what you can and can't import.

Replying to [Ranger]: Thank you for your reply. Yes I can buy them without games, but I didnt know that the games would stop the product from coming in. How would I be able to know for future references if I had any problem with products getting through customs?

hi EZ money
The following issues are what you should worry about when placing an order with a new supplier:
1)whether this company is real and legal
2)whether the legal company is not a shell company
3)whether the one you contact is the owner or staff working in the company
You should do the following to verify the company:
1)go through my article at www.chinawhy.net/company.asp, then you will have some general i
dea on how to verify a company
2) visit the local Administration of Industry and Commerce(by then you will kno
w whether legally this company exist)
3) as a matter of fact, it is more and more convenient to open a shell company and many in
dividual use a company name which don't belong to him to trade, it is necessary to visit t
he address listed on the AIC company registration system to check if they are shell compan
y and whether the people you contact is the owner or staff working in this company
4)call the telephone number listed in AIC to see if you can find the person you have been
contacting, call the local 114 telephone directory system to enquiry for the telephone num
ber of this company
by that, you can tell whether this company is real, chinawhy.net offer company verificatio
n service if you are not at a postion to verify the company yourself.
In case you don't want to spend money verifying this company, we have some tips for you to
judge whether they are legit and make your transaction safe:
1)always use L/C as payment method, especially with new supplier, a decent company will ac
cept L/C, the fact that a company accept L/C suggest the company is real, for regular supp
lier,T/T is more convenient, but if you are buying large quantity, L/C shall be the top pr
iority of the payment method.
shell company normally don't accept L/C.
2)insist to make the payment to their business account, in china, the bank will check whet
her the applicant is a real company. Please Note: an export-oriented company will have a f
oreign currency business account to accept payment, a domestic have a business account whi
ch receive chinese currency only.It is easy for a company to apply for the self-support im
port and export right, after that, they can apply for a foreign currency business account.
Don't trade with unqualified so-called exporter.
3)check whether they are located in a residensial area
4)the company have a company email shall be prefered to trade with
5)don't never do business with those company who list a mobile phone only on their website
as contact telephone
No one can 100% guarantee that it will be safe to trade with any company, even big and dec
ent company. so it is strongly suggested to take due diligence before you enter business w
ith any legal company, new and regular.Negotiate a proper sales contract with all necesary
clauses;arrange a preshipment inspection if possible;always use L/C as paymemt if you are
buying large quantity.

shipping forwarder is in charge of the customs clearance thing, after the supplier send the products, you ask them for the contact information of the shipping agent or express company they use, then you can trust a agent to call the shipping agent or express company to see what's going on.

Steven
