One of the easiest methods is to go to the better business website which is www.bbb.org , instead of specifying alocation click on the option to go to the nation website and search for the company there. Now, not all companies are listed and it can take quite some time to get listed so you can also check with the state of New Jersey at http://www.nj.gov/njbgs/services.html but again, this only works for corporations in NJ.
The larger issue you will face is whether or not they are able to secure all of the forms required by Aussie Customs. You should find out from your local customs and health departments what certificates are required and make certain that the wholesaler in NJ can provide them.
I have found providing certificates for foreign governments to be a weak point for many American exporters as they really don't understand your local laws any more than you understand ours! Copies of the required documents make it easier for everyone to get the requried certifications, or to know that the required certifications are not available. I have done quite a bit of exports from the US of goods (Both US origin an re-exports of foreign goods) and I can tell you that the main reason for honest business to have shipment failures is a lack of understanding of laws and requirements in the improting country.
Hope this helps.

New Jersey requires registration with the state to aquire a business license in order to begin purchasing or selling wholesale. This way they monitor sales tax that is generated from sales within the state. Many however have web based businesses not collecting sales tax from their customers throughout the rest of United States.
Ask for proof of registration where they must produce a certificate of registration or business license. As far as I know there are no codes per say. Just resale certificates that one must file periodically to pay taxes on taxables within the jurisdiction of the state. We have tax exemptions but I don't beleive cosmetics is one of those. That, however should not effect you purchasing wholesale from them.
Hope that helps!
