Thanks for pointing that out! I was about to write a similar comment when I saw yours.
The worst part is probably that if ALL suppliers he contacted were scammers, most likely he didn't do his Due Diligence, as you already mentioned.
Second, looking at his style, etc., I also have the impression that he was blinded by greed and went for those offers "too good to be true", not understanding that in such case they are indeed not true.
But that is of course all the fault of the whole nation of China - not his - as his country is perfect. No scammers found there! Yeah, right!

What I must add, to title an entire community (the suppliers here at Alibaba) and an entire nation a bunch of scammers is preconcepted and is untrue - this you cannot afford in real business.
