The leather industry faces including skin disease among sheep and goats, lack of proper handling of raw materials, shortage of qualified slaughter houses and problems with the law regarding livestock.
The quality of hides and skins is being affected by skin disease, they said. "Unless necessary measures are taken early to stop the spread of the disease, further distortion may happen," they warned. The poor handling methods applied by butchers, from slaughtering and preservation to storage and transportation, have also played a major role in weakening the sector. "Training should be given about preparing hide and skin," they said. The poorly designed regulation on livestock should also be revised
The marketing of leather products a challenge.
The number of companies engaged in foreign trade are few, their problems hardly reach the attention of the policy formulating bodies of the country and therefore the possibility of being heard requires more effort.
The current and future environmental and ecological requirements in the international leather trade is experiencing ecological pressures which are likely to increase in the future.
