What are the cultural points we should know about when doing business with companies in the Middle East? (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, etc.)
I would like to know the best way to approach potential business partners in this region of the world.

The Middle-Eastern business culture as to my personal opinion is heavily overlapped  with the Muslim religion, especially in Saudi Arabia.

The first impression is always the most important one, there ought to be a face-to-face meeting with the prospects, and this follows after some correspondences over the emails, fax or phone conversations.

If need to be, bring along your Muslim partner and arrange for a meeting with them over dinner at a Halal restaurant of their choice.

It is easier to work with the Kuwait people for American companies, but if there is difficulty, try to appoint an agent to do the business to the Arabs.

Arabian culture utilizes the concept of face to solve conflicts and avoid embarrassing or discomforting others. In a business context, preventing loss of face is equally important and essential for your future business success in Saudi Arabia. For instance, your Saudi Arabian counterparts will not take well to pressure tactics that place them in an uncomfortable position, thus forcing them to lose face.

In Saudi Arabian culture particular emphasis is placed on tone of voice, the use of silence, facial cues, and body language. It is vital to be aware of these non-verbal aspects of communication in any business setting in order to avoid misunderstandings. For instance, silence is often used for contemplation (during prayer 's hail ) and you should not feel obliged to speak during these periods.

first you must know that there is tow kinds of countries in the middle east
first kind is a reach country and the second is the poor one
in the reach countries like gulf countries they look about the new and the comfort and they buy exspensive high quality products but you have to find thier styles
in the second poor countries they alwayes looking for the low prices that is the most important thing to traders there and belive me they dont look to quality
i'm from Egypt and i alwayes look for the good low prices first cause customers here care about the prices most
thanx
