When starting a new business what is more important to you, knowing the right people and having little or no money, or having a large amount of capital with no connections? If you can only have one, which one to you pick and why?

I'll go with no money and lots of contacts..... I have a better chance of buiding a business from nothing with good contacts and doing the old double shuffle on the Credit Card than I would with a bunch of money and no way to sell what I bought.

Contacts are always imporant, even more than money.
I started as buying agent on alibaba.com, sifted through buy and sell leads, contacted sellers in India to find manufacturers of what was in demand, made a loose tie-up ith them, project their produce as right choice for overseas buyers, and got established moderately.
Manufacturers in India were my old contacts and buyers in Australia, Europe and US were my new contacts.

I did spend a lot of time to fine tune presentations.

Replying to [Cali Rugger]:Agree. If you wanna do business with no money, you should do it on credit. Many friends of mine have the question like yours. I suggest them working hard for their employer, which they can earn and save money. At the business beginning, do small business need small fund, do large business need lots of capital. If I'm poor with money, you never do business with me. [em2]
If someone lend your some goods or funds, can you promise you will make much much money with their goods or funds and promise give back their help ASAP! I prefer working hard if I couldn't promise that.[em1]

an if possible, i want to have good relationship and with amount money!that is two kinds things you need,but of course,there are some persons who with little money are successful.you can ,but it is difficult!
if as you said,just choose only one!i think i will choose the captial,i think it is the most important!
i think i will be blamed by some body!but i tell truth,as now legal system is doing better,and everything i can do by legal,and now there are too many suppliers from china,with good quality and better price!
so that i still think the amount captial is the most important!

Replying to [Cali Rugger]: For me, contact and connection is very important.

There is a book writen by Don Debelak entitled 'The Risk Free Entrepreneur' with its selling point 'No Capital? No Problem!'

This is a very good book, the idea person's guide to building a business with other people's money. After reading this book, you will understand why you can start a business with no capital!
