I bought a printer from indonesia which was cheap but paid 1300 usd for it. although i had my doubts i emailed paypal to let them know. after emailing paypal twice i phoned paypal to ask a few questions with regards to security one of which was what happens if the seller removes all his funds and adds it to his account? would i still be able to get my money back? they said that they would be able to take it from his account and it wouldnt be a problem. i then made the payment and found later on the forum that the company was black listed. I disputed the payment on paypal and paypal only gave me 5.00 usd as that was all that was left in his account. they said hey would try and retrieve the rest of the fund but i think its highly unlikey as i read there terms and its nothing to what was told to me on the phone. they only have buyer protection for ebay customers and not for people who bought items off ebay.

I am sorry to hear about it. [em4]

I heard Paypal can protect much more buyers' interest than sellers'.  However, we do not operate this payment all the time.  I  can not  still comprehend why the paypal say you can retrieve money easily at first,  while  you  just get 5 USD in the end. There must be complaint on it.

Wish you recover and better soon.

This is why I always say PayPal is not safe if you are outside eBay. Guess people need something to believe in, for some it must be PayPal.

Sorry to hear that.

I have got some bad experiences with paypal too.

But for your case, you should have gotten the name of the person that you spoke with on the phone. I guess he/she didn't inform you well enough as to the whole procedure.

A lot of scammers, they would scam others and withdraw the money from paypal as soon as possible.

And paypal, as an organization of e-bay, in my opinion do not do much effort to help victims of scam... [em4]

PayPal are a load of crooks.  They started a dispute with one of my clients who was trying to pay me. Nothing to do with me at all but then they contact me,  it's my fault and I have to pay the fees.

As with anything you need to read the terms of use. PayPal spells it out very well that purchases outside of Ebay are not protected. Sure you can file a complaint but by the time you realize you must do that, you have already been scammed and the seller has not only closed their PayPal account but their  account associated with PayPal.
