A Brief Company Background

Tijit started with single-minded philosophy, to be a link in the supply chain of the marine shipping industry focusing on portable equipment.

Horn GmbH is located in Stuggart, Germany, in the heart of the Diesel Engine makers industry. Dr. Horn's products are used all over the world. They are precise on diesel and gas engines, on turbines, in the shipbuilding and capital goods industry and innumerable other applications.

Today, a new product is launched, the Bearing Distance Measuring System (BDMS). The BDMS consists of two distance sensors mounted inside a special bracket to be installed inside the engine between the crosshead slide ways facing the lower dead end point of the crossheads. This is for large two-stroke engines, and can be fitted during its idle time without the need for dry-docking or shipyard maintenance.

Everytime the downward stroke reaches its end, the distance between the rod and the bottom end is measured by a set of proximity transmitters, each on one of the connecting rods. The distance is precisely measured in two decimal places millimeters. Built-in the sensors are the temperature sensors, measuring the splash-oil temperature. Both readings of distance and temperature are displayed on master indication unit. The data are transferred stored and evaluated at the same time. If the distance goes below the set tolerance, an alarm takes place, if the distance change is severe, the monitor shuts down the engine, as this indicates a bearing failure and may cause extensive damage to the engine if no action is taken.
