Desk top computers seem to be more reliable than laptops

I am having  hardware problems for the second time with my laptop.  My much older and less powerful desk to computer is not a name brand and has worked better than my lap top.

I wonder if others have noticed the same thing?

yes, I have the same situation with you. dest top computer better than laptops, mainly for the speed, laptops can not update the hardware, but a desk top computer can change the SD memory capacity and the HHD easily.

With the latop, you can do nothing on it if it is getting older and older.

Yes,

This is also my experience, the Laptop is mobile, and has smaller versions of components with the same functions to take up lesser space and light weight. A laptop is subjected to much higher environmental stress than the big brother (the arguments by the Latino group, whether to call a computer a "he" or a "she").

The most common enemy to electronic circuits is moisture and static electricity, and the other most common problem to all mechanical and electrical appliances is HEAT. A laptop does not has the space needed to ventilate the heat given out from the CPU, and the other components, and is subjected to thermal stress. All electronic components and semiconductors misbehave when subjected to higher temperature, which is being solved by the cooling fans.

I have placed my laptop in the trunk of the car, and later found it not working due to the heat imposed on it, the screen display went blank.

The other problem is vibration. The hard disk spins at a very high speed 10,000 RPM, or so to quickly retrieve data or to write them by the read/write head. A small vibration on the hard disk, causes the read/write head to shake, and touches the surface of the hard disk, this will cause a dent, or scratch on the disk and displaced the magnetic properties and the hard disk to fail, if this scratch is in the indexing sector. The computer is programmed to leave out bad sectors and isolate them, go into a new area to write the data, but if the bad sectors are in the critical location, or there are too many of them, the hard disk will fail. The other thing about its Acheles heel is the motor which drives the hard disk. Some are belt driven, where the motor pulley is attached with a rubber belt, the presence of ozone will harden the belt and the brittle part simply breaks off, and cause the disk drive to fail.
