Post 1 of 20
India just announced special new trade Zones?... I haven't done any reading as yet... What's the deal?

Are India about to try and take on Chinese manufactuirng? Offering bigger subsidies perhaps?

This could get ugly!

Replying to [Foow]:I personally think that India now still has not developed the equiverlent power to fight out China, Both of us have the relative advantages,But you can see that the advent of view "fight out" between India and China" is itself a inheritence of traditional ideology .[em17]

It is true that India is imitating China in the case of creating special economic zones and it is facing a lot of problem in land acquisition which can solved and SEZs are notified and the government has not taken the responsiblity of acquiring land and giving to private sector. SEZs will come and how far it will be useful remains to be seen.

It's normal in business not only for china and india everyone do that and no doubt. I didnt found anything wrong about that so what is the problem if they really fight to be the bigger subsidies...let it... it's business and that's what we do in business.

Foow,

I came across an article that talks about loss of farmland to industrial and residential areas, the effects on food security and the global repercussions. I thought you might want to take a look at it. The link is as follows:

Rchas,
Saw a PBS news story about these SEZ's the other day. Seems that the fears might be starting to gather intensity. Bunch of farmers being pushed off their land with little/ no compensation by the government who would then be selling the land to major companies to set up factories etc.... Unfortunately I didn;t see the beginning of this story so I didn;t hear where exactly it was happening. I gathered from the story also that this was very fertile land and that some hundreds of acres (hectares) was being taken over ... can India afford to lose hundreds/ thousands of acres of prime farmland?

Is this going to be a case of small farmers getting pushed off the land (as was potentially going to be the problem) and left with nothing for their lifes work..... If they do this I will be mightily peeved at the Indian govrnment and big businesses for not having any feelings for their fellow countrymen! This is NOT the way to do this type of thing!
