What are the basic communication mistakes ?
Post 1 of 9

We send and receive so many e-mails whether they are business or not. Since we all have the opportunities to read and see so many e-mails, you have possibly come across with some communication mistakes in some of those e-mails. I think it would be useful to learn those basic mistakes in order to be able to mind us doing them, too.

What are the basic communication mistakes you have attested in those e-mails and/or letters you have received?

The main mistake that I have noticed in the e-mails from Chinese friends is that they write to almost any company whenever they find an opportunity disregarding what they look for actually. For example if you post a trade lead for buying car-light bulbs, you may receive e-mails from even stationery suppliers or processed agri-products manufacturers. To me, this is a basic mistake..To have more replies, they should write only to those companies who are dealing with the same range of products of their own.

Hi Arthanari,

this mistake is very common - all over the world! I've been teaching languages in Germany, US and Mexico, and everywhere will you find that people basically express themselves in their own language, using only the words of the foreign language. That's quite normal in the beginning and will only improve once people feel comfortable with those foreign words as such. Next step is expressing yourself like a native person from the country that originated the language, and only after that can you become a good translator.

Hi Uwe,

Yes, it is because, in early stages of learning a foreign language, the learners still think in their own native language. When you learn a foreign language, you have to think with the words of the language you learn. However, it is said that there are two exceptions, one is the mathematics and the other is swearing, which are said in native language when extremely angry.

[em2] In this case, let's forget at least about swearing, and only use math where it's really necessary.

Hi Uwe !

Sure, none of us will never support swearing, insulting and/or other unpleasant words, but I regret to say that they exist unfortunately in all languages. I wish they didn't.. [em6]
