About your second question:
Offcourse not Italy is the only country which make leather,but there is other countries is the leads for making"tanning,dying,finishing" leathers as : Egpyt, Turky.
That two countries are popular in tanning leather from many time ago, while Italy and Europ are popular only in Dying and finishing leather.
