I have a contact who is looking to buy 100,000,000 barrels of oil per month for 12 months. I have found a couple of suppliers on this website. What is the best way for me to profit from arranging this deal? Should I act as a middle man or just charge a finders fee for finding the supplier? Urgent response is appreciated :)

Please, accept this without offense, but your deal is fake.

I understand your excitement, but the deal is fake. I can prove it, rigorously. Your buyer is either a misguided trader looking to flip the deal to a buyer HE thinks can perform (but can't)  OR he's a scam artist, or he's just deluded.

If anyone on this forum wants me to I can prove this on request.

I'm not being arrogant, I am concerned for people, really I struggle as an entrepreneur. We all do, we are business people out there taking risks trying to make our dreams come true, the chase of the sale, of doing something great. I want success for all of us.

Most brokers chase fake deals and fail because they don't even do the first step of due diligence.

I want us ALL to succeed. This takes skill, luck, knowledge, and common sense.

Someone said a large quantity like this is a bit unbelievable. I agree, in fact - it is entirely unbelievable.I am disappointed, everyone here should have spotted this much earlier in the thread.

"realestate1111" rightly questions the quantity. Gabor Bathori goes into some detail on WHY this deal is sketchy - in fact he called it a bad joke. I'd call it a good joke, but it is a joke all the same. Trollslayer also points this out..

The person replying "big deals require transparency" is incorrect, everyone on the planet will circumvent you in a heartbeat if you wanted 10% commission on a $4 billion dollar deal. In fact.. ...many would shoot you dead...

$4 billion is larger than the GDP of many countries, you could buy a small (very small though) country with the commission - $400,000,000.

But as an EXERCISE I would like to break it down - this is a good EXERCISE in initial due diligence:

Kamal's "if I told a 10 year old boy of average intelligence about this deal, would he fall down laughing test"

1. You say your buyer wants 100,000,000 barrels of oil per month for 12 months.

2. Assume a future price of USD $40 /bbl - this is $4,000,000,000  - Four Billion Dollars.

Find me someone willing to buy $4 billion dollars in oil a month.

3. The average VLCC Oil Tanker carries approximately 2 million bbl of oil

You are talking about 50,000,000 TANKER LOADS A MONTH !

Unless I'm doing my math wrong...

4. Find me a port on the planet that has a terminal large enough to keep this much oil.

5. Find me a tanker fleet this large.

6. Draw your own conclusion.

My firm shoots these sort of fake deals down all the time, in fact I recommend it as an exercise for prospective agents. Spotting them is an easy science, if you know a thing or two about the Oil industry and keep your reason in the front seat driving.

It's fun, actually, so much fun in fact that I wrote a brief ebook on due diligence and spotting fraud after a night of playing with deals of this nature.

If you are SERIOUS about Oil I recommend googling up Richard Fagani's book, he is an experienced oil broker who wrote a book called A Petroleum Broker's Notebook, which deals with Oil scams in GREAT depth. I have NO FINANCIAL INTEREST in his book, but he's a great resource.

Secondly, I recommend the writings of David Papa of FTN exporting - I DO have a financial interest here so I do not want to breech forum etiquette by self promotion. Just Google up Davide Papa, he has plenty of free information on the internet, if you are interested  in further resources, email me.

Dear Sir,

I do not recommend doing such a transaction over Alibaba. It is a large amount and the overhead costs for an operation would be large.

I realize that you just want to act as "the middle man" , however I do not suggest you do this. There have been many incidences where I have seen this happen where a potential high $ situation occurs, and the end result are rarely favourable.

Hope this helps,
