Hi all,
I want to make sure the factory in China I am using meets acceptable standards for social compliance: fair workplace conditions and pay, no child labor, meets environmental standards, etc., etc.
Which standards, bills, or certificates should I ask them for? Are there common ones most factories are now trying to adhere to?
If it helps at all- the factory will be manufacturing toys.
Thanks.

Now all the factories not only in China, other countries are all following labour rules, factory sanitation and child labour control etc: So you can ask them to submit the local Government certification for sanitaion and albour rules: That is enough

Low,

There are lot of abuses of what the actual laws are in quite a few countries. It is close to impossible to find out 100% about the ethical standards of many comanies overseas, and even harder to get any sort of certifications.

The best way to handle it is to have an agent working on your behalf in that country who can do factory inspections for you and check on the working conditions etc and see if they meet your standards. remember that labot laws are different to those in the US in many other countries.

Yes, China's factories have to comply with the China Labor Rules in the aspects of payments, work hours, overtime, working enviroment, sanitation, no child workers, health and so on. And the governments' relative department will inspect that. But formalization and malpractice may be the problems.
