Commission for sunflower oil
Post 1 of 15
Dear all,

Firstly, thank you for reading this email, and answering my possibly simple question. I've done my job googling it, but could not find a sure answer, therefore I'm asking you.

I've had a contact from supplier of sunflower oil in Ukraine, who was looking for buyers. I live in Middle East, and through meetings and research found an excellent buyer of the sunflower oil. I've revealed my information about both supplier & buyer to both parties, as I believe I should be paid not only for connecting them but for additional value that I bring (so far I believe I was of an value, as supplier would not be able to find a good buyer out of all scammers around here, I've helped buyer prepare some materials requested by supplier, and I'm always available for both). Therefore, even though buyer had a chance of talking to supplier directly, he told me he preferred to do it through me.

We are almost closing a deal for 3000 metric tonn as a start, but the buyer is willing to sign a yearly contract for much higher amount.

They both are clear that I would want a commission, however, I'm not sure what should be the %. I've read that the max to ask for is 2.5%. I don't want to over charge, as I intend to be a continuous representative of the supplier in the Middle East region, however, I don't want to undercharge as well.

Things like signing contracts etc do not work either in Middle East or Ukraine, therefore I don't have anything signed with them, and we work on mutual trust (so far it worked fine).

I would be glad if you could advise me on the %.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Oksana Arkhypchuk

You should charge $0.01 USD per liter for your first transaction.  It comes out to $30,000 USD for 3000 MT.

Is there any difference beween Sunflower oil and Olive oil??? I've read from one of the posters in alibaba.com if i didn't make mistake, he asked for 3% commision for his action, but only to supplier but not both, maybe you can have a reference from looking into this story... Hope it can help you a little.

first of all bravo for the 2 parties that they protect you , this a very rare situation ,

1-you should have a contract with the supplier to nominate you as there agent for your area other wise it is not working  you will find yoru self outside the deal after a time.

2-the contract must mention that the commission will  be from 2.5 % till 5 %

in this condition you are cover and you have a good contract for bulky item so when you have a small customer you can  injoye more profit as 5 % .

Hello,

if I understand right you did extensive business intelligence and sourcing, but actually no sales job (I mean the total sales volume does not depend on your activity). In this case I would ask for a flatrate rather than a % commission. In exchange I would undertake further mediation and inspection service for both parties, and charge this flat rate for working out each further shipment. Just ask for a flatrate you can live with and see if they give it to you.

In case you still opt on the percentage, I would say 1,5% commission is OK. (I used this rate when I worked on commission).

Hi Oksana,

Every industry provides different commission. Usually what I would do at times is to ask the supplier to provide the prices of goods in gross and net price. The difference between the two prices is the commission that the middle man will be getting.

Depending on the good and price, the commission will change. In oil industry it might range from USD$5 to $10 / MT.

There are also cases where certain buyer is only willing to give out a certain % of the sale. So instead of providing you with gross and net prices, they will just tell you in advance that you will be getting a certain number of percent.

I wouldn't go to the point of saying that 2.5% is too much. I think it is reasonable to ask for more and there might be discussion needed to find the best % match between you and the seller. I know a supplier in textiles industry who willing to offer 3% for commission. But you have to do the discussion with the seller. And remember to do everything in black and white. To protect yourself especially. The rule of thumb is, supplier gives commission, buyer usually don't. But if you manage to get commission out of both party, that is good for you.

All the best to your venture, Oksana, keep us updated and if you have any question, feel free to contact me. [em18]

Best Regards.

Since it was only a "verbal" contract i would advice you dont get cheeky and charge over 6%, this is a fair amount for your work.

Also please can you contact our HR department we may be interested in training you up to be an amazing sales agent "for free" then working in our business, thanks

Dear Oskana_ar

I guess that commission should not pass 2 percent, because it is acommission, especially when we talk about millions.

it is just my point of view

thanks and success
