Freight & other cost for low volume imports.
Post 1 of 5
Dear Friend,

Most of new comers in Imports due to finance or other concerns, not able to import high quantity goods, even when they import, price will be fairly high.

But, for start up, even if the price is little bit higher.....its not much of worry. Now come to the main question...

Say if a person wants to import 1 or 2 tonnes of stainless steel or Steel products from China or other export company. Who will be ready to provide freight and other services, as the Bill is of small amount. How should one go about importing this small quantity as reasonable low prices. (include freight, insurance, dock, other custom charges).

Thanks and Regards,

Ashish

Check the 'Terms of sale' .
FOB,DDP,DDU...etc. That governs the title and payment details.

Being a buyer you can ask for a hassle-free Door delivery, however you need to be knowledgeable enough to know the freight charges, clearance charges that the supplier is charging.

Thanks sir,

As i told you, it is in very low quantity, only 1 or two tonnes. and billing will be around USD 2000 to USD 5000. So, i asked chinese firms, they are not ready to provide DDU or DDP. they agreed only on FOB.

so, what can be done? and how would it be cheaper.

Ask them to do it Door-Delivered.

Else ask to make it Ex-Works and you take all responsibility of bringing the goods from Chinese factory to port to indian port to your place. Here you can have more control but not sure whether you get a better import rate that the Chinese would have got as export rate (freight).

Moreover, as the volume is low, no one will be so interested to owrkout discounts for you, still you can try and get the best possible rates.

Feel free to mail your query to my mail ID and let me go through it in detail and tell you what beast freight rates you can avail for your import. when you mail, mail with shipment details  like commodity, exact volume &/or weight, POL, POD , Date of shipment..etc.
