I ordered a sample of 48cc bicycle engine kit from a Chinese company. At first there was a problem he wrote:

"Sorry, our sample were back from Shanghai Airport Custom.
They found it has oil in these engine. Yes,in the past,DHL and any other company can ship all these egnines,It is first time to happen this thing.
Because China will hold Olympic Games,so check is very strict.
What do you have a good idea? You can make a trial order of 200sets by sea or another way? Now it must be sent by sea.
thanks"

I told him that unless I had a kit to sample I could not make a purchase. Finally a kit did come and it is of good quality. Now i'm concerned about placing an order. His English isn't very good and you would think that they would be sending out samples routinely. I have never ordered anything from a Chinese manufacturer, so I don't know what I should expect. Are there any credentials or certificates I should ask him for? Am I overreacting? I have read so many horror stories on these forums and I don't want to lose my money. Apparently there is no safe way to pay either.

Here is their website: http://www.chinamotorbike.com/index.htm

Notice that "Instructions" is spelled wrong? "instructious"

Here is his alibaba page: http://www.alibaba.com/member/ykstx1/contactinfo.html

Notice his city is Yongkang Zhejiang. This is on the west side of China, so why would he even be shipping the sample out of Shanghai airport which is on the east coast?

Zhejiang is a province close to Shanghai. It is reasonable if they ship samples from Shanghai. As Shanghai is the closest international airport.

Yongkang City in is Zhejiang Province. i have been to this city 3 times. This area is obviously a manufacturing hub and is known as the hardware capital of china. From shanghai, you can take a speed train and reach yongkang in 3 hours. I think Shanghai would be the nearest international airport from Yongkang but I find most of my Yongkang suppliers prefer sea shipments via ningbo port as the cost is lower.

Re [wildkeith]:

Hi  Wildkeith

I wish you still do not pay for the 200pcs.

I think it is abnormal.

I opened the two links.

Their own website shows they just have English website. It is really suspect for a manufacture. Normally manufactures in China have BOTH Chinese website and English website. [em24]

Their Alibaba page shows they are only FREE member. Personally I think golden suppliers are much more credible than free members.[em24]

Be careful ! Wish you good luck!

I think there are at least 2 possiblities.

1. As the first person reply in this discussion, Shanhai airport is the cloeast airport from Zhejiang province, so the samples shipped from Shanghai is normal. You can trust him.

2.The person you contact to is from trading company, trading companies have to get samples from factories, and then send to you. There are some factories would help trading company, and send samples directly to foreign customers. So maybe the factory is in Shanghai.

You may not able to trade with trading company, but I think most them they do better job than factories. As long as they have their job well done, and you get your high quailty products and benefit from that, why care so much whether it is a factory or a trading company?

I have no idea why you'd choose free member supplier. Even you can't 100% trust on under 2 years Gold Suppliers and TurstPass member. I hope you didn't make any payment to China. All the free member are not scammer but we should aware on every information of free member suppliers.

Do not worry about it.  Here is my suggestion:

You can place a trial order with them in case you've got the sample and in case you're satisfied with it.

I guess they are a small factory in Yongkang, Zhejiang, and most of them do not have Export Right in China, so for large orders they normally work with an export agent in China. In this case, I suggest you can work with a purchasing agent in China too for larger orders.

A pre-shipment QC inspection from a third-party service company is a must for such orders in China. A pre-shipment QC inspection can tell you whether what you bought  is what you paid before delivery in China.

I will go to Yongkang for a business trip soon, please feel free to ask me any question related.

Warm regards

Justin Yuan
