Oh there are a lot of things you must learn!

1. Leave your fingers from iPhones, iPods, Nokias, XBOX-es, playstations and other such brand crap from China and especially from Indonesia!!!

2. Start with a simple product that needs no special knowledge or treatment, no warranty issue, no spare parts, no certificates, can be stored and shipped easily etc... you would be stunned to see how many such products exist where you can have good margins! Just look around and see what people need.

3. Start with products you can sell as a distributor in large amounts (unless you want to open a retail store).

4. Do your due diligence and be careful. Always clear any terms and conditions well in advance, and never pay to a company you haven't verified first either by your bank, personally, or through an inspection agent. Always see a sample first and be very detailed about what you want to buy.

5. And so on and so on... there is a lot you will have to understand, like documents, payment methods etc. but you will find reference to them at this forums. Also I strongly advise you to look up INCOTERMS clauses and study them.

In fact your 10.000 USD is quite a nice starting capital so if you like business you have a fair chance to multiply it in a relatively short time. For example, you could get about 30 motor scooters for this money, but it is up to you to make a choice what is your favourite field of business. Whatever you chose product and market knowledge is essential.

Only my 2 cents, there are a lot of people around here who are glad to help you.

My most profitable business was started with 24 first class stamps, a telephone that was due to be cut off at the end of the month a good idea and an awful lot of effort.(service sector)

Turned over £350,000 about $700,000 in the first year and a profit of £160,000

Advice. Find something that people buy use up and need to buy again. So a consumable product. Soap, toothpaste, food, beverages.

Why do you think supermarkets make so much money.

Avoid capital goods style businesses especially at the moment. So no white goods, brown goods or electrical equipment.

Hang onto your cash for dear life at the moment.

Service industries where you can work from home are great as they have a low overhead(cost) should you lose sales.

Look for market opening and sell like mad. If you are not a professional sales person get on a sales training course should cost around $300 for a days training to get you started. As an USA citizen your education system is pretty good at setting you up for a sales career (UK is useless).

Good luck watch the cash flow and be prepared to lose money at the start as you learn. Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich is a good reading book to give you some good ideas borrow it from your local library. Learn from other's mistakes and don't repeat your own mistakes. Don't put all your capital into a sigle product / idea.

you can do many things with your $10,000.00 (there are a lot of ways to spend your money).[em3]

if you want to make your business, here some advises :

1. you can produce your own product, then sell it. (here, it could be export to another country),

2. you can import product, then sell it.

for those ways, you have to know buyers and sellers, to exactly know what the market demands and who is your business rivals.

other way, you can meet the the supply (producer/manufacture) and the demand (buyer), for some fee.

you can make your profit grow faster, then you can still build your own business.

believe me, a product means nothing without someone who can sell it.

I have my own business, but with my connection, i still can make money from others business.

Dear Elena

Not everybody is prepared to succeed in business. Not that simple.

Check your strengths and weakness: what you know you can do good; and what takes you too much effort to do or you do bad.

Then, make a market research to identfy which products may be of interest in your area (gender, age, price, etc).

Then, you may identify who will buy those products from you.

Tools for the hardware store, cotton clothes for babies or ladies (that may be you can sell to your friends, and to their friends, relatives, etc...) , and so.

Then you may identify your possible suppliers.

Then, you may get some catalogs or samples, etc of the porducts you have decided to start with, that you may show to your potential customers.

You should check who else is making same or similar business in your area: Who will be your competitors. What quality they have, volume they sell, prices, product origin, etc.

Then, make clear numbers of amount you need to spend; and how much you will collect.

After everything is cristal clear, then you may start on your own business.

Good luck

Gorzak
